iPhone AT&T Unlock

It has to be on 3.0.1 or earlier! With the 3.1 update they updated the base band which stops unlocking(for now at least)
 
It's best to avoid locked iPhones, it's not worth it anymore. You can get a good deal for a local unlocked iPhone if you keep a look out. I got a brand new 8gb 3G vodacom stock for just R3500 thanks to a fellow forumite.

Yeah I guess, it's just that that one is a 3gs...... :)

But I will be happy with any iPhone. :)

nate are you 100% sure that will work? Did your dad unlock it on 3.1? Why would these guys have it and not the Dev team? they could just steal the code then!?

Ya , they probably just use all the things that you get for free and then charge you for it. I do know that my dad got his phone unlocked using them before the dev team released their unlock for 3.0 ...

but as you know.. that pesky base band ;) stopped the 3.0 unlock

SCAM! We have mentioned these sites often in the iPhone Tips/Tricks/Threads app..

Don't use them. There are only 3 guys on the scene, DevTeam, ChronicDev and GeoHot for now - none of these guys sell their tools.

Do not get a locked iPhone - they are not worth the mission! Apple keeps patching the exploits all the time - rather settle for a unlocked one!
 
Apple iPhone 3 GS 3.0.1 'dead' after redsn0w 0.8

I am totally new to the iPhone. Yesterday a friend of mine brought me a new iPhone 3 GS 3.0.1 locked to AT&T from the US and I tried to jailbrake/unlock it with redsn0w. Unfortunately after following all the instructions, something went wrong and the phone seems now in recovery mode (does not switch on) but ask for a restore when connected to my Mac Book Pro in iTunes 9.0.1.
I have read many postings about not restoring via iTunes and what I am trying to do otherwise does not work.
Can someone help me, please?
I am in Gordon's Bay.

I have now managed to build a custom ipsw 3.12 and restore it with iTunes. However my pay-as-you-go MTN sim card does not seem to be recognized. On top left there is only ... and I do not see MTN as a carrier nowhere. Should I do something else?

then reboot.

The 0 in sn0w is a zero!

How did you do that?

I bought a second hand Iphone. I was not aware it was jailbroken. I reseted the darn thing as all his stuff was still on there. It failed to start, I googled and teh only solution I found was restoring the darn thing via itunes. Did that, now I'm sitting with a darn locked Iphone. Great

Ok since it is on 3.0.1, do not upgrade to the latest firmware as this will lock the phone until Nov 4th when blacksn0w is released for the new baseband - http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5840

In order to try and kick it out of recovery mode:

1) Download iREB
Windows
Mac

2) Connect your iPhone, close iTunes and click ""Fix Recovery Mode Loop" button in iREB.

3) If you can start up your iPhone again, follow the iClarified jailbreak and unlock guide step-by-step.

Also, worth a mention, do not use blackra1n on your iPhone as it is NOT for locked iPhones..
