iBurst and Intel's embedded WiMAX plans

The spectrum issue is a complex one. Multiple technologies are competing for the same frequencies. LTE and WiMAX for example can co-exist in the same bands but it would be disastrous for them to be sharing the same frequencies.

The debates could go on forever if someone doesn't put their foot down and make a decision. That ball is in ICASA's court and they better not drop it - someone has to unfortunately put their head on the block about this one.

We've proposed a plan to ICASA that shows they can accommodate us and the other WiMax licenses to be allocated (at 30MHz each) while also adhering to the international guidelines on LTE.

It would mean we'll have to move sideways (in the frequency band), but we're willing to re-provision our 260 WiMax towers (at our cost) to get this sorted once and for all.

The problem though is that you had to go to ICASA with the plan. ICASA should've been actively looking for a solution and proposing this to prospective (and current) Wimax license holders.

They're pathetic.

We try and help where we can. ;)

The reality is that they have a very small number of technical staff and those with the brains are often hiding away so they don't get eaten for dinner by the bureaucrats

Its not about doing their work for them... its about formulating solutions with them that will benefit everyone :) People are much nicer to you when you are nice to them - life lesson.
