News Corp may block Google

Global media mogul Rupert Murdoch has accused Google of stealing from his News Corp. empire, and warned he may block the search engine from accessing its content.

He is shooting himself in the foot.

His business model is not sustainable.

You don't build business by cutting yourself off from the world.

I dont even read their crap news and its for free! He can go ahead and block it, the world wont miss much.

A case of oldskool business unable to adapt to new business models and changing technological times ?

The failing old media

Google refers about 25% of the WSJ pageviews...

I don't know why they had to make such a fuss about this. It takes one line of script on a web page to block the Google bot from archiving it.

I can't imagine why they're doing this at all, actually. It seems remarkably stupid - like refusing to allow the Yellow Pages to list your business, because you don't want people to know about it. Only on a much grander scale. I swear the lunacy of the American right must have some sort of biological explanation... There's just no rhyme or reason to their madness.

Easy... just put this in your robots.txt file

--- snip ---
User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /
--- snip ---

I hope he does...

It'll make a great business case study for anyone involved in SEO

This fool owns that conservative right wing mouthpiece aka Fox News!

It annoys me that Google sources Fox so much... I would prefer to be served from content from other media publications, so this does not bother me as well.

Yay, google news is getting better :) Thanks Murdoch!!

The cache is great. Except when Google's stupid protection starts claiming the attempt to access it looks like an attack.
