21 Mbps to be next mobile broadband baseline speed

Telkom, testing 8Mbps ADSL! In other news, 21Mbps will become the new wireless broadband in 2010/11.

Telkom needs to catch a wake up.

The rest of world zooms ahead and telkom is proud to be testing 8mb. I guess we will see those speeds in 2020.

3GPP R7 is in SA already, just that we dont have the capacity to use the 14mb + speeds.

Do you really believe that SA mobile operators will role out 21mbps any time soon, they are unable to provide decent speed at the moment. Keeps on dropping to EDGE speeds. My initial 384 ADSL was way faster than the MO's HSDPA, and my now 4mbps is way faster than their network.

Any way do you even know that Telkom provides 7.2mbps on their mobile service. Further.... it is different technologies, BT is providing 8mbps ADSL to there customers.....that in a first world country.

what good is 21 Mbps when it costs a "fortune" for 2Gigs?

If you are downloading it's gonna cost you R2.40 PER SECOND if you went over your bundle size

I formally announce my availability to be a guinea-pig for the 21Mbps mobile trials.

> hit me with 21 <

At today's insane 3G Prices, 10 minutes worth of surfing on this could cost you around R320 if you bought a bundle, and R1900 if that was OOB

for contract members, it will bring data monitoring to a whole new level of stress.

Makes Telkom 8MB seems small...

Wonder when we will see a 21MB wired service to homes...

/agree with Keeper, pretty pointless with our restrictive cap/cost. I don't see the point of upgrading speeds when all we get is crumbs at the cost of caviar.

If we don't upgrade our speeds, then when we do eventually have cheap unlimited caps (oneday ) we won't be able to use it effectively. :D

Funny enough, yes, actually i was (and still am) using it in the trial period before it was release. So yes, I did know that. Might I add, it's fantastic! I've had NO issues what so ever, unlike the poor people "dropping to EDGE speeds"

But you've miss the point I was making entirely - The world has moved onto 21Mbps on a WIRELESS network. Telkom are only TESTING an 8Mbps wired connection. They are to far behind on the ADSL. They should be setting up and testing 24Mbsp networks.

From what I understand, 3G at 1.8mbps only goes 1.4mpbs ... 3.6mnps goes at 2mpbs and 7.2 goes at under 5mbps ... does this mean 21mbps goes at 15mpbs?
