Things are getting better in SA. Last year I was not sure about SA's broadband future. In 2009 I am much more optimistic.

It is likely to be the same price as standard ADSL bandwidth. We will try to gain clarity about it and give feedback. You will however need to buy from iBurst I think.

The way of the future it seems. Seems like those who can afford it will get the best and those outside the gates will have to use drum relays to communicate...
If you need high speeds 'outside the gates', you could always use W-DSL. In many ways more advanced than ADSL2+.

Hehe. If Telkom doesn't do something drastic (8mb/s is a good start but not DRASTIC) before LLU time I think they're going to be in serious trouble!

Dont mean to be ignorant, but what exactly is LLU?
Basicaly means that Telkom will have to give other companies, like iBurst, Internet Solutiosn and Neotel, access to their copper network. These companies can then use this copper to provide services to customers - typicaly give them ADSL services where they can use their own DSLAMs and the like.
And now my ignorance shows through...
The "LL" in "LLU" stands for Local Loop which refers to the "last mile" of copper between your house and the exchange. This belongs to Telkom therefore if you want a line it has to go through Telkom. Some ISPs do sell lines but at the end of the day, they're getting them from Telkom.
The "U" stands for unbundling. Basically the copper won't belong to Telkom anymore. This allows other providers to set up their own exchanges and provide line for consumers.
This will provide more competition which is great 'cause I believe Telkom is a little greedy- making people pay for phone rental even if they only want ADSL. And the prices are a tad high IMHO.

Very true. The question is also whether wireless LLU is needed from Vodacom, MTN & Cell C...but that is something for another day

2011 as per the last ICASA missives but with a new minister on board this might be accelerated!
The current date is set for November 2011 (just search the news articles), but it is a complicated process and hence some experts predicted that full LLU will not arrive by then.
