Finally someone plugged up the courage to expose this pathetic company's incompetence:

MTN if you read this. Blame the customer, the economic crisis, RICA, whatever you feel like, bottom line is you losing customers to someone else and you thoroughly deserve losing every one of them.
Keep up the shocking service, bigger gaints than you have fallen and I for one will celebrate your demise. :D

I Also terminated 2 contracts with MTN and glad it ain't even included in the 750 000. My long time number I decided to port, purely because I wanted to put in writing my termination reason for MTN to see (they couldn't care less) and for the new company to also see it.

MTN could happily accept anyone porting to them, regardless if they previously were on contract or pre-paid. They couldn't however convert a current customer from contract to prepaid. They'd rather loose the customer even though the prepaid customer base is more profitable.
Again, MTN if you read this, YOU ARE STUPID, IDIOT, THICK-LIKE-CUSTARD, MORONIC and above all INCOMPETENT at your own business. (maybe next time I'll copy & paste the board of directors or CEO's names in here)

One more month until I will be porting 2 MTN contracts to Vodacom prepaid. Cannot wait!!

Do I need to give MTN notice?

Don't port, rather get new numbers.
Do I need to give MTN notice?
Somebody needs to give MTN 30 days notice that you no longer require their services, I'm not sure whether that should be you or the people handling your port. Before I forget, do not port, rather get a new number.

A friend of mine ported to Vodacom over three months ago, everything was fine for three months and then MTN reactivated his number, now he can only receive calls from other people on Vodacom. He also found out that MTN had continued to bill him for those three months.

Wonder where they are going to go to

Quite a pool for Afrihost and the HotChillis :D

I wonder how many have fixed lines though

Taking their current service levels into account I'm surprised they lost only 750 000

No one is mentioning the fact that they changed the free minutes to rand value thus whacking the customer with a 80% decrease in value - for the same price.

Theft = loss of loyalty, simple

Hey man, I hear you. I really don't want to go through the hassle of advising everybody my new number. I can always instruct my bank to return the debit order "No Authority To Debit".

Yeah, its complete BS. Still another year before I can port to VC. *sigh*

EDIT: Actually, mind you, if interconnect rates come down I might score :/

if MTN has this issue about GDP growth why don't we see Vodacom complaining?

Going to stop using my MTN sim (Anytime 200) as my primary number & just use it in my dualsim phone with my VC weekender sim to make calls when my CellC minutes are finished...

After December 15th I will have 2 lines cancelled with them.

:)

MTN will continue to lose subscribers for at least 2 more years.

MTN was a fool :
MTN had a better and more widespread network when they commenced cellular services. Vodacom saw this was their weak point they capitalised on it. They did a massive roll-out.
ALL the chainstores offered to sell MTN products in their store.
MTN refused. Vodacom gladly accepted it and put their brand in all the major chainstores.( About 12 years ago )

they are fools -
They currently offer terrible service and incorrect billing to their high Value Clients - Causing frustration.
There prices are not as good as some others that have lowered their prices.

and they will always be fools.

Bigger companies than MTN has folded in the past.
I'll be watching this space and absolutely love watching their fall from grace.

MTN - please don't ever stop improving on your lack of service. Your business model sits extremely well with your disgruntled customers :p

I suggest you check that facts a little :p

That being said, the loss of consumers from my personal PoV has nothing to do with RICA or anything else appart from the Billing issues experienced. But that is my uneducated take on things :o
