Aw well done!

Love this ruling! :D

And slowly but surely people will see the truth for what it is!

Love this part:
Telkom apologized for any misrepresentation to its customers regarding the speed and reliability of its advertisement, offering to amend the wording by deleting the words “enough speed and reliability” and inserting “best possible speed and reliability”.

The ASA rejected Telkom’s proposed amendment to its advertising, saying that a reasonable person is still likely to expect to have speed and reliability as good as, or better than the international standard. “This appears neither true nor what the respondent intends to communicate,” the ASA said

I wish I could sue telkom for the amount of stress iv been going thru in the passed 4 months with them :D

Telkom further said that it can only guarantee the quality of its own network and that it cannot provide the same guarantee over the internet which uses multiple links.

Like they can even guarantee there own network, but i guess they can dream.
lol

um, just to be clear, WUG gaming is a closed network is it not? so it does not really qualify for online gaming? And I remember reading that some people were saying that it was not that reliable either (at least PTAWUG).

Anyways, this is great news. Telkom needs to be taken to task for this... not to mention the fact that their capping policies are also severely restrictive to online gaming.

I think you also want to change: "Which broadband/Internet service do you think is the most suitable for online gaming?" to
"Which broadband/Internet service do you think is the most acceptable for online gaming in South Africa?"

Cause by world standards the answer is Cable or Fiber imo.

ADSL is unfortunately the best gaming connection in SA. I recently downgraded to 384 in hopes of saving a little bandwidth.

While ADSL is the best option for gaming, the shaped DO-whatever accounts are not. We also have ridiculously high latency regardless of which ISP you're with, but shaped = baaaaad, at least when playing internationally.

//gets out a baseball bat and HITS telkom through the face.........teeth and blood everywhere...........

Mr Roseveare forgot to mention that the cap is too small for gaming.

Mr Roseveare forgot to mention that the cap is too small for gaming.

Ooo! Excellent point. Ever tried to download a 5 gig MMO client on a 3 gig cap? Or what about 8 gigs in patches/updates (can you say LotRO)?

Sorry, but you're generally screwed gaming-wise, regardless of which way you slice it as a TelkomInternet subscriber :

WHO

Mr Roseveare forgot to mention that the cap is too small for gaming.

Who is this guy ????

A MyBB forumite ????

+1 for consumer activism

-1 for Telkom / False Advertising

What are you all going to do when Telkom is no longer there

Who is going to be the new "whipping boy"

15% of people disconnect constantly? Really? Holy crap, guess I'm one of the lucky ones then, eh? Or is this just a problem on the DO packages?

EDIT: Just on the technicality side of things, the WUG cannot be used for 'Online' gaming.

ADSL is your best option, the rest might be good enough, but unless you've got a faulty ADSL line, it's still the best.
