Tricks
Garmin Mobile (its niether symbian nor Windows based) so dont know if anything is available ?

Only tip i have (its a bit late though) is to rather get a 5800XM :)

Back on topic, when they say this is faster than a smartphone, how fast is it actually?

Also what operating system is it running on?

Also what operating system is it running on?
No Idea

I think this phone is less popular than the 5800XM

no one trusts a samsung

Lol so what do you think of this phone so far?

Enjoy...

Hope it's not another Samsung fail

let's see if it follows in the stars footsteps (it did considerably well)

With the Jet you can install Route 66 - to use the navigation feature, you have to buy it from the Route 66 Store. Use Google for find the instructions.

I am looking for Apps for my Jet. Please post links if you have any.

Thanks , will do so as soon as I get some.

So used the phone for a few days .....
Excellent phone thus far , getting applications not as easy as on a symbian phone but phone generally very user friendly and fast as well.

Screen is awesome , Camera is excellent.
Video capturing is ok and easy to use. .

DIvX playback exellent as well and widgets make accessing internet and other phone functions a breeze.

Havent tried the wireless connection as yet.

The garmap navigation that comes standard with the phone is absolutely useless and tried taking me off my route to work onto a farm road .

It no where near as user friendly and capable as the Route 66 navigation sfotware that came standard on the Nokia 6110.

I too am a SE user and wanted a change. I was looking for a gadget with a decent camera so the Iphone didn't quite do it for me.

I decided on the jet because of the following;

1) AMOLED screen is excellent, one of the best resistive touchscreens I've used and in my opinion kills the N97. Touchscreen on par with the Touch Pro 2 which is literally X2 it's price
2) Battery life is decent
3) Has all the other standard features (e.g Wlan, push email, exchange activesync, multitasking, gps) you would expect from a high end phone but at a mid range price. Also has a 5mp camera.

The cons so far;
It used the propriety samsung OS which for me makes simple tasks complicated, also it's impossible to find software for the phone and you stuck using java apps.

I tried to connect to a buddies Wlan and couldn't get it right in 5min so I just left it.

I've been trying to setup imap idle for the past 4 days now, I've contacted Vodacom and Samsung neither shedding any light on the situation.( I can download emails manually but new mails aren't being pushed to the device)

I think all these problems stem from the propriotory OS, If they had gone for Symbian this phone would have been a winner. I would have rated it 8.5/10

I you don't use push email and just need an upgrade you should definitely consider this handset, the Touchwiz 2 interface is user friendly and quick, it looks great and feels good in the hand. I haven't had any problem with the Garmap GPS software and it should be fine for the average user.

Jet scores a 5/10 because it doesn't do the things I was looking for in a phone.

That's what i thought the first time a saw the specs of the phone. It's got it all but is being hold back by its closed proprietary os. Imagine it with symbian or android and we had a contender for phone of the year. But now it's basically what u buy is what u get. It won't survive with only java applications. But it has been my problem with samsung all along they are in the electronic hardware market and not in software. Even the d900 could have been better. It's really time for samsung to look towards a third party company for their os.

a 5/10? seriously.im not interested in email on my phone so this sounds like a good upgrade.can you tell me what price you got if for and where?

Can you suggest a competitor i could look at . This phone is appealing to me the most

Update:
Got Wlan to work, Security protocol was the problem. my bad
Still no luck with push email. Samsung call centre is useless and Vodacom can't seem to help me either.

@Positively Negative
If you not going to use the advanced features then I would definately go with this phone. I've seen a firmware update on the net but it's not yet available in SA, update looks interesting and will imporove on the JET's interface and speed. The SE satio is the same price R6500 but from reviews I read the touch screen is poor.

I've got the Jet on a Vodacom 315 top-up and had to pay in R1300, but I decided to include the payin on my monthly bill which makes it R380 something a month. Check out Gumtree, people are selling the Jet for R3500

hey. can anyone tell me what the pay in would be for the Mtn 75 top-up.

ok i got this phone from Expansys for R3200 with delivery!

so far im extremely impressed.im not really interested in all the fancy widgets but i must say its extremely tough getting used to touch screens.it takes DECADES to type a simple txt message.i hope i dont lose my patience with this :(
Ok the camera isnt all that great but its not a deciding factor. Im sure pictures in full light will be awesome but i was testing them with the 'flash' :p
The interface is amazing and screen is really impressive.Wow and all the goodies that come in the box are sick. 8gb mem card,great feeling pouch,tv av cables, CAR charger plus a nifty awesome stand for the phone.
The last phone i bought for 3k was a SE W850i and that was a great music phone but the value im getting for this phone is awesome.

Battery life doesnt look promising but all these modern phones and java apps running at the same time drains battery quickly.oh well..i guess we have to accept it

Yes, the capabilities are great but I'm still disappointed with the propitiatory OS. check out this group http://code.google.com/p/jetdroid/ for info on the andriod OS getting ported to the jet. I can't wait for this to happen.

@Positively Negative - You will get use to the touch interface and with the dictionary on, typing is easy.

Still can't get push email to work on this handset, very disappointing.
