Hi guys

Don't know if I can ask this here, but since we are all South African, I'll give it a try.

I have been trying out DC++strong, and was wondering if anyone could give me a decent SA hub with no rediculous minimum sharing limit. I cannot get into any hub without it wanting me to share basically my whole computer (most require minimum of 5G share). The reason I want a SA hub is for speed reasons as well as using my local bandwidth.

By the way, I find DC++ difficult to understand as opposed to LimeWire. Anyway
I would appreciate some help if possible

P.S. I am not a big downloader, so don't worry, my cap is at 3G or 2G

Thanks

well there is no decent p2p in south africa even if ppl tell you there is

the only decent p2p probem is a cracked version of edonkey you share 1k and give yourself full throttle

Promojo - I'm one of the lurking nameless on a local IBurst Hub that I think has no
share limit currently. The Hub seems to be down at the moment (5.38pm), and is on a backup Hub.
I dont know what speeds you'll get from ADSL->IBURST - but generally speaking, the
basic thing is lurk, leech, and dont worry about how much you happen to download,
and if you have stuff to share, great, if not, dont worry about it..
current backup Hub = ibust.kicks-ass.co.za
(its kinda empty right now)
otherwise usually, its reached via:
ibust.kicks-ass.net
ibust.servebeer.com
ibust.kicks-ass.net:8080
ibust.kicks-ass.net:80
ibust.servebeer.com:80

The other 'bigger' DC++ local node is
zahub.kicks-ass.net
or
sahub.kick-ass.net

Isn't the whole point of P2P, sharing? It's not like uploading stuff effects your download speed.

There's a fair amount.

There is no need for additional hubs, what is really needed is people to loose this weird self centered attitude that they have to minimize how much they upload and maximise downloads.

If getting capped is what you are trying to avoid, then you shouldn't really be looking a p2p in the first place.

On second thought we do need another hub, one especially for the parasites. It would be perfect, you wouldn't even go over your cap since nobody would be sharing anything, and if they did they would throttle the speeds so it would take 2 months to download 10meg.

The p2p communities in this country are small and there are capacity problems due to low performance product offerings. No p2p community that has these problems can afford to tolerate parasitic users. It would erode the value of the network to the point that your contributing users would give up or go elsewhere.

Not having anything to share is no excuse, the bitorrent communities only require you to re-share what you are downloading. Can't get fairer than that. Given enough time you will have enough content to get access to the DC based communities.

I am with pookfuzz on this one. People want to share 0Gig and expect to get 30gig in return.

Wow, when I first joined a local DC hub the minimum was 20Gigs. It's down to 5Gigs now? Eish, I wouldn't complain...

wisecrack i live in south africa we pay a premium for uploading and downloading which is 30 gig the rest of world has unlimited uncapped

so i think its fair that i dont give my bandwidth away. ppl overseas couldnt careless they pay next to nothing for it

Yes that I understand killadoob. I was talking about your share size.

yup my share size has to be low because sharing and downloading counts towards my 30 gigs so i cant go giving away 15 gigs lol

when as guys with a 2mbs line paying next to nothing can

killadoob if this is you attitude then use the overseas hubs, they have enough users that that can allow users like yourself.

Everyone pays the same rates, everyone has the same problems. Your attitude is selfish and very short sighted.

o lol dude chill out

i was talking about edonkey and why i do it with edonkey not SA. there are no decent hubs in south africa wouldnt connect to one anyhow unless it was like 3 days until month end

edonkey but my attitude is still the same i aint gonna share my stuff on edonkey at more than 1ks because like i said (read my posts) and if thats unfair or selfish blame telkom

yup it is selfish but we live in a selfish country so i dont feel so bad i would feel bad if i had cheap uncapped adsl but i dont.

Reviveing this thread

Is there any new developments for P2P in South Africa. Since local bandwith is cheap I can't see the problem.

Why the HELL would you want to use p2p in south africa anyway? Our upload speeds suck, and getting stuff from 1 source isnt exactly the smartest idea...
