Ok This is the thing after months of trying to get my company to not use the CNC/Telkom network I managed to get the big boys to change thier mind and change to a diffrent MPLS network

so now Telkom here of this and after three quotes wants to quote again
So the big boys (Accountants) see the numbers thing and asked my to write a report on why NO to choose Telkom

The way I see it telkom are ment to be our buissness partners
why did they no give us a best quote the first time
second how can they give a quote to me of R8801.03 for our 1024 HQ line
are they selling it cheaper than other service providers if that
is the case is there not a law against them selling line to cheap to under cut other providers

if anyone out there that has had to do a report line this I would love to see
it please post it

I really need help on this one

Are yo saying 1Mbit for R8801per month with bandwidth???? or is that just the bandwidth???

is this Diginet??? if so, how could I get it at that sort of price :D

That's highly illegal. Can you provide me with a copy of their official quote? Will submit it to the ISPA

That pricing does not make sense too cheap, we were paying R6k for 128k Diginet between branches 2 years ago, must have left a ZERO off the quote.
Hell it would be great if they are coming to the party. Obviously not a SAIX
but pure Diginet link.
I know 2Mb SAIX was at least R250k/month

First of all that price doesnt make sense, marketing-wise.

Lets say thats vat inclusive, remove 14% from it and check for yourself, I dont know of any sane/insane company that would offer a pricing figure that looks like that.

It could be true.

The radio station I am with gets a 128k line for R1500 through SAIX.

I know, I arranged it.

I can't believe, has SAIX been ripping most if us off or is
it the local Telkom Account Manager or a SPECIAL !!

These are SAIX pricing from various sources:
64k Silver - R2800/month
64k Gold - R6k/month
128k Silver - R5500/month
256k Silver - R12k/month
256k Gold - R24k/month
512k Silver - R16k/month

Silver class - Contention ratio 1:4 Local full speed, International 1/4 guaranteed
Gold class - Not a shared service, International 1/4 of full, bursting to 100%

Sure this is possible, if they signup for a 40:1 contention perhaps, the normal 4:1 local and 1/4 international will not go at this price, unless its some corrupt techie doing it behind telkoms back and pocketing the full ammount.

No contention ratio, No techie. We always get true 128k speeds, and it is done through the proper channels.

They gave us a discount because we used UUNET before at R8000 odd for 128k. Admit it, they are undercutting other providers.

how are telkom undercutting the comp?

i think they are gonna make as much as possible then when the second players comes in price drop alot

That doesn't make much sense to me - why would they undercut by so much? I mean they could probably have offered R7499 and made an extra six grand profit.

Not saying you're lying though, just wondering.

That will have to be answered by Telkom. Actually, I would be VERY interested to find out what their reasons are...

No contention ratios? getting 128k all the time doesnt mean your not contented, your just not being contented yet. If your getting 128k 1:1 at that price, someone is definitely thieving, not even proper big ISP's pay that little.

@clipse : on the MPLS networks, we pay :

R13,500/month incl local leads for 512Kbps access, 256Kbps 1:1 into NYC. We frequently burst to 512k as well, especially in the evening. The line is consistently at 256k during the day.

R28,000/month incl local leads for 1984Kbs acess, 768Kbps 1:1 into Lon. We also run our Infoconnects (MPLS Connections) to MTN, Voda, CATS and SAP via this MPLS port.

In addition, we have 4 x 1Mbps circuits with no international access, used primararily for local browsing and delivery of email. These 4 Circuits cost about R2700/month each for the access. I am not to sure what the local leads cost.

So R8000/month for 128k sounds a bit steep to me :D
Cheers ~

G@@dness, no wonder Telkom defrauds us by degrading ADSL as they will loose this goldpot of services. Cannot wait for competition to kill the B@STERDS off

Eh, Maybe I should clarify. Not all our circuits are with Telkom. They are split between IS and SAIX...
