Mweb must think people are stupid.
who in there right mind is going to pay R145 + R477 for 1 GB
Thats: 62c per meg. Thats cellular data rates
Anyway I've always hate mweb with a passion. They over charge for there so called premuim services.

A day will come when South Africans will stop celebrating mediocrity and wake up to the notion that we can be the best and don’t have to settle for less. We are turning into a country of schizophrenics where we think R145 for a 1GB service is wonderful! This is so sad. We are supposed to get excited about new speeds at cheaper prices yet we are getting all excited about getting less service for more money. Are we caught in time? Is this hell we are in because I can honestly say this is not the South Africa I am envisioning for my children one day? This is exactly the reason I am fighting the system to allow for a better tomorrow that could easily start today.
We are all *****footing around the issues at hand to seem civil and nice. Imagine that, we the citizens of this country who are getting shafted every single day are being nice. Not for long! I refuse to celebrate a shoddy service like that just because “it is the best MWeb could do” or “they found a loophole in Telkom’s crappy pricing structures”. Why should we be happy with this? I am sure as hell not going to go, CHEERS MWeb for finally bringing out the smallest bit-capped broadband service in known history! Thank you MWeb and the other ISP’s for not standing by your customers. Is it an unfair rant? Is it unfair when we haven’t seen so much as a constructive let alone controversial peep from the legions of ISP’s who refuse to back customers who are terribly upset by what Telkom is doing?
Thank you madam minister who in all her wisdom hasn’t come out against issues that touch the people of this country. It isn’t like you have a myriad of telecoms companies to keep an eye on.

And this isn’t a caller ID problem that is difficult to spot; it is THE MOST PROMONENT service of our age! How can our minister miss this?!!? How can she not come out and use her almighty ministerial powers to stop the crap that is going on like the plague amongst the people of this country. Oh wait, I know! The minister doesn’t know because she has admitted herself that she doesn’t pay telecoms bills. I wonder why!??! Could this be a bribe? She has admitted she is a technophobe! No wonder she doesn’t have a clue as to what the impact of this is having on our country. Is our minister even excited about new technology? I have a sneaky suspicion she isn’t all that aware. Is this the right person for the job of minister of communications? In any functional department there would have been a ministerial intervention a long time ago but this is just a JOKE! One big fat joke with a tragic punch line…
Does our minister even know what a monopoly is? I wonder if she doesn't say things like: "It can be that bad! People are still buyig Telkom's products, aren't they?"

antowan, reading through your post, it brings out all the frustrations that i feel over and over again every time i visit here. When a slight bit of good news appears, the morbid realisation of the 'bigger picture' just crushes that hope, and buries it deeper in the ground (hmmm jamaraquai). And i just feel hopeless, because the thought that nothing will ever change, regardless of who we bug with emails, who we complain to or which monopolising company we plan to plant C4 in, remains rooted in my mind.
And the scariest thing of all is, is that the so-called Minister is in complete control of the only organisation that 'regulates' telecoms in SA. Excuse me while i go weep bitterly, and light a candle for the South African Telecoms industry...

The niche is probably for low-usage users checking the odd website and downloading mail. But that is exactly what dial-up is for.
We need to get the message across: ADSL is for broadband multimedia apps like live webTV, online gaming, listening to radio stations, etc../

I'm sure there are users out there who will only need 1GB, but why pay R145 for 1GB when you can pay R199 for 3GB?

and knowing mweb's marketting strategy, they'll make 1GB sound like alot. i can just picture it. "for a mere R145 you can send XXX thousand emails and browse XXX thousand websites every month". and conveniently forgetting to mention what others uses ADSL could be used for

That nich is so stupid, they must have got the idea from the technical experts, P Ivy.. and clan. They probabably did not hear about the baseless prepaid on offer where i can buy a zero acount and 1 gig prepaid, and top it up if I need more or carry over to next month what I do not use, (like a lot of Telco customers). That I think is cheaper, more realistic and self controlable.

Well you guys know whats pretty funny... this is probably the ADSL product with the most marketing cause its from M-web so it'll probably sell extremely well, no matter how much we bitch about it on MyADSL. The problem is that, yes Mweb do think people are stupid, infact they know that most people are stupid when it comes to IT and the internet, so they know that people will believe them and trust Mweb cause everyone uses it right?
I hate Mweb... theyre in the same vein as telskommel (first stupid name I ever used for telkom...)

I dont understand why you guys are gettting so hot under the collar over this MWEB offer?
Can you not see its aimed at dialup users (specifically their own 350,000) ... NOT current ADSL users (even their own). The smallest ADSL account you can currently get is 2Gig, and I dont see a big market for downgrading to 1 Gig.
OK so its not the most cost effective 1Gig offer on the market (from Nov 1) for people in the 'know', but look at it from the perspective of a newbie with no self confidence in technology. The most important aspect of their service is the avaliablity and quality of the associated call center ... one that has the patience to explain to you the purpose of an ethernet cable.
These types of large scale well trained call centers cost money. So does the marketing used to entice the users onto ADSL, which in the long run should reduce costs for all (once competition arrives). Chances are MWEB will bring more people onto the ADSL in the next 6-12 months with this offer than the rest of the ISPs put together (possibly with the exclusion of TelkomInternet).

well if the adsl package was cheaper than their dial up imagine how the dial up users wil flock over to them say R100 for 1 gig... I should be in marketing.
