New satalite internet provider

It's horrendously expensive though and the "cheap" option is capped at 2gb. Thanks for the info though, I guess any competition is a start.

I see they also offer unlimited bandwidth.
Name of service
IP 512...........$530...... R3545.70............2 GB/ month

IP 768...........$730.......R4883.70...........unlimited

IP 1024.........$995.......R6656.55............unlimited

Maybe if ISPs buy in bulk and distribute the bandwidth it could make a better deal than Telkom. But then again, there is now local capping on ADSL that sends that option to the grave. Maybe that is one of the many reasons they are going to cap local.

AHH! I believe you may have a valid point there... Maybe Telkom has their sights set on selling much cheaper international links, but don't want to be left out of the loop completely. !@)((@ sharks.

I guarentee you that is it.

They were thriving on our inablity to collaborate. How long will we let this continue?

Its SAIX that is inforcing the cap on the ISP's that buy from them. That is why IS ISP's can still offer 30gig local.

A problem with the sat provider, is the latency... but the the more the ISP's move away from SAIX onto other international providers, it could cause SAIX to rethink their policy.

Just a point.

It may look expensive, but as always, what's the contention ratio? Isn't it not meant as a backbone rather than consumer service?

Thats what i thought aswell, backbone rather then consumer service.. depending on the contention ratio, it could work out to be a very decent price, if split up :)

Hi - am setting up my own virtual ISP. Have set up a site called internet provider to start finding users etc.. Any thoughts on it?

Yes, it's exactly like one of those sites you see when you misspell a domain name. Crammed full of Google ads and no useful information at all  . Apart from that, the layout and formatting of the meagre amount of text on the site is not even good. How much thought did you put into this?

For those of you who haven't seen it, the owner's blatanly obvious intention is to lull noobs into a site full of Google ads in order to make some money :p .

Am I wrong?
