I used to use Fizzi-Clean tablets to get rid of the protein on my contact lenses but now that B&L came out with a new solution that claims to get rid of protein buildup without the need for separate protein cleaning, I find that my contacts are getting a lot of protein build-up instead of the solution working for me.

I get eye infections every around 2 months and although its not severe, its very irritating. Itchy eyes and the lens moves around and burning eyes is not something that I want to live with.

Has anyone got a similar problem and what's the easy solution ?

Wear glasses?

On a more serious note, what type of contacts do you wear?
Maybe try switching to a weekly or daily kind. That way you get fresh contacts, with no build up

I have a slightly different problem, If anyone can help me with this(i wear dailies btw). I put in fresh contacts in the morning, by mid to late day one of my eyes(usually left) gets scratchy or just feels weird. When i look in the mirror i can actually see protein(or whatever the eye makes) on the outside of the lens, so i take out the lens and gently pull the protein off the lens it comes off in a little strand. When i put the lens back in everything is usually fine, but its not lekka to take out a lens and put it back in all the time. Does this happen to anyone else? What can a person do without having to take out the lens or try and get the stuff off with dirty fingers.

Geez....
I have never had build up on my contacts (although, they are semi-hard specially made lenses for me? )

I use opti free solution, never had an issue with it.
I also dont smoke and stay away from aircons as they dry out the lenses pretty quickly.

semi-hard lens? Only ever had soft lenses. Whats is the semi-hard lenses like and have you ever worn soft contacts?

When I was still using contact lenses I stored them in Aosept - it's the only brand where I didn't have problems with protein buildup. Plus, since there's no rubbing, there's less risk of tearing the lens.

Please read the instructions, though: you must use the container that comes with the box - it contains a catalyst that breaks down the hydrogen peroxide solution (you'll see it bubbling over the lenses). Using another type of container without the catalyst disc will result in painful, burning eyes when you put your lenses in the following day (as a friend found out). :P

Yeah, the hard lenses give me perfect vision, but I can only keep them in for very short periods (2 hours or less) until corneal swelling occurs and extreme discomfort sets in.

The semi hard reshape the eye like hard lenses, but are breathable and more comfortable like soft lenses.

I have worn soft lenses, but I have a condition called Keratoconus, and the soft lens doesnt really give me the comfort or vision I need.

I wear soft lenses. Disposables will work out too costly. Will check out that fizzing solution cos that is what the Fizzi-Clean tablets used to do but seems like the Fizzi-Clean tablets are discontinued.

Would you put a glowing hot lighter in ur eye? No? Then why would you burn ur eyes out with a scolding hot lazer?

Boiling baby oil in the eye anyone?

I had Lasik done a year ago. It's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Of course I'll be paying it off for another year or two, but for me it's worth it. :P

I'd recommend asking an optometrist. You can get some bad medical advice on the Internet.

Eff that... the moment I'm working I'm zapping my eyes :p. I dislike glasses (need them for driving, seeing what lecturers are writing on the board, checking out the blonds :p) but flip I had contacts... Feels creepy :p. ha ha.

Seconded. I'm prone to lens issues, and Aosept cleans them perfectly.

A common cause of eye infections with contact lense users comes from not washing your hands before sticking fingers in your eyes. You need to disinfect your hands before going near lenses and the cleaning solution
