Government office cut off over unpaid bill

The city council must treat everybody the same incl govt dept's.
 
About time.

The public are basically subsidising Government.

It is like that article recently in the middle of the Cape Power Crisis, where a woman in a council office told a member of the public it was fine to sit with the heater on all day and that the council pay for it so it is OK.

Council and Government should be setting an example.
They are not exempt from paying their bills.

dominic - surely phones carry their own power supply on the line - phones usually work when power goes down. Anybody care to explain the technicalities??!

yip - was wondering more about the priorities. Its the end of the month and you ain't got enough cash to pay the three of the electricity, water and telephone accounts. Which one wouldn't you pay? Also i would guess that the telkom account would be signficantly higher than the other two + ven if the phones are cut-off there is mobile access

Yeah - there they were on the news filling the generators up - and swearing they weren't going to pay the bill. And as mentioned elsewhere - CT paying the governments bills (on infrastructure) but they don't pay their own - and as usual it's a political plot. Though would think Godzilla wants the money to pay the bills the gub should be paying. This also includes V&A Waterfront and other big names.

I thought the Waterfront was up for sale. How do you sell something that owes about R5M and won't get a clearance certificate?
 
Well who needs to pay their electricity bill - there's no electricity anyway!!

I read the article in the Cape Times today - it is a ridiculas ammount of money which is owed, in the 10s of millions ... so now the guys at the top say the Zille should be approuching them about it at an executive level - this sounds like the worste reasoning that I have ever heard ... I am sure that the mayor of cape town has better things to talk to the provincial goverment about than the power bills - if the propper warnings are sent to the propper offices and they don't pay then they should be cut off ... just like every one of us

I am in total agreement. Government is just another organisation that must be treated the same. This is most certainly not a mayoral issue.

Incidentally, I heard that CT government was going after the big organisations first, then targeting individuals. I think this is a great strategy, as it creates buy-in. If local government went to individuals first, and insisted on payment, it would create resentment (What about [that high profile company], they don't pay rates?).
 
The DA once again showing the ANC how Government should work. And Government once again showing the people how to act (pay bills when you want to and not when you are supposed to).
