Hi. I am new here so if this question sounds basic, please bear with me. I have a dial up internet connection with Telkom and ABSA(isp) at home. I am looking for something faster and well priced. ASDL seems to cost quite a bit because of all the various telkom and isp costs, and I was wondering about other options like HSDPA. Traditionally, I buy cellphones for talking and the odd game when I am bored (at the moment I have a Nokia 6230i on mycall 100). So, with this in mind and for the sake of clarity, would you give me your opinions on 1. HSDPA, 2. This type of internet connection with respect to download speed, and 3. the inclusive costs of HSDPA. Thanks for your help - GP.

Hi,

Okay well I think firstly we going to have see if you're in a Edge, 3G or HSDPA covered area?

We have a special running at the moment on MyCall 100 @ R49 Pm for 24 months with the F@stlink E620

R236,80 Once off for sim and connection

If you take it with a bundle you will effectively pay less in terms of the rate per meg

For example you can get the 100 Meg bundle @ R100 in bundle R1,00 out bundle R1,50

Speeds you looking at anything from 400Kb's to 1.8 but more than likely you'll get 1.4 which is the max I've gotten thus far 1.4mb's a second.

Let me know if there's anything else you need to know

Thanks MTN DD

Thanks!

Sorry about the double post - blame it on a slow internet connection! Thanks for the info - I live in Queensburgh, Durban. For clarity, for R49 per month plus the once off connection fee, I will receive what exactly? On top of the R49, I will pay for the Meg bundle, depending on how much I use? How long is the bundle valid for - i.e, do I just top up when finished (from where?), or does it have a limited lifespan, e.g. valid for 1, 2 or X months? Again, forgive the ingnorance! Cheers!

Virgin Mobiles offer is way better (see those threads).
Anyways, for R270+R100 you can have ADSL 3GB with cybersmart on 192ADSL (soon to be 384).

Whatever you do, look carefully at ABSA and MWEB pricing - they are expensive.

Thanks Moederloos. Looked at the VM site but couldn't see prices as yet. Have had all my cells through MTN so thought I would start there first. Will look around though, and thanks for the Cybersmart link. Also, I am paying very good attention to pricing, for eg, MWEB, imo is way too much! Thanks again!

Good day,

The Contract is only R49 with no CLI and Itemized billing, Data bundles are optional.

The connection charge is once off that's correct R236,80 that's for your sim and connection. If you get a bundle you would have to decide which one would suite you the best if you don't use it, it will fall away.

Anything else please don't hesitate to ask

Ta MTNDD

Thanks. What do I need to connect HSDPA to my computer at home, and how long before the unused bundle "falls away"? Do I pick up the bundles from MTNsp? Cheers!

Good day,

If you have a PC you can get a Elan PCMCIA adapter, the data bundle run's from a month to month basis, you can choice between a couple of bundles if you want to see what they are you can check out www.mtn.co.za or I can PM you with them, if you don't use the bundle if reallocates the following month but doesn't carry over.

I'm not sure if you have a contract at the moment? if you do have one from MTNSP let me know and give me your cell number on PM and I can arrange for the bundle to be loaded for you.

Hope this helps

The Elan adapter can be bought through http://www.microd.co.za/catalog/

Unfortunately MTN nor MTNSP stock these I believe they can be bought at Vodaworld I'm not sure
