Telkom clarifies ADSL 192 to ADSL 384 upgrade

i phoned Telkom to ask them that exact question and they said it would definately be upgraded today, i asked again' "Are you sure" and the guy said yes. This article says some time during August, how Vague

well, it is good that they addressed the problem, before an angry mob of 192k customers start picketing outside of the offices... lol.. I am now sad :(

Instead of over-delivering, Telkom under-deliver, again.
Why not have started the process mid July? That way the critics would have been silenced and Telkom would have appeared as a magnanimous benefactor?

Criticising Telkom is like shoot fish in a barrel...

no doubt.. it would have given a few more people something to smile about(well till their bill arrives ;)), twiddles his thumbs while waiting.

suppose i should have expected this from Telkom, but just thought it would be nice to have something brighten up my Tuesday :)

What if you can't "synch" at 384kbps? Do you still pay the 384kbps price?

if you can't synch at 192k you don't get adsl from what i read.

As of today Telkom has two unequal services which cost the same. I bet a year from now if anybody still doesn't connect at 384k, it will be attributed to cable length between subscriber and exchange. What are they doing to overcome this? Wouldn't it be better then for both parties to leave such subscribers on 192k, and lower the price for them to, say, R187.77?

Yes!

ytf shud 192k subscribers pay the same as 384k?
Atleast make them pay R187.77 until the upgrade is done..

But then no1 will want to move over to 384k :P
Because most ppl dont really care about an extra 192k speed, if it means a price reduction...

I meant, if you can't connect at 384kbps, do you still pay for 384kbps even if your line speed is lower?

R187 would make it cheaper.. heck dial up isp + 150hrs (on closer package)= anything from R200 +/- R25.. and when you use cybersmart it comes to R287 for 192k, 3GB. R50 for infinte time.. no wonder they dropping it like a hot potatoe.

yes you pay the same amount..ie charge is for 192k + 32kbps*n = R245.
n = 0, 1, 2, .., 6( to get 192k to 384k)

Help Help Help

How will I know that my line is upgraded and sync and what ever

Best Effort

Please remember that Telkom's ADSL service is only a best effort service.

This might also mean that it is the best effort to try and find the buttons on the keyboard to switch the speed up.

We all know that there are no jumpers to be changed, just a couple of buttons to press, and maybe some mouse clicks, and maybe one day Telkom will learn about scripting that would be able to do the job even faster.

Or maybe I am being simple minded in this approach.

its automatic, the system will do it when it gets round to it so you don't have to do anything on your side. just sit back and keeps you fingers crossed it happens soon. After its down your speed will be better. Problem is AGAIN.. no timeline so when is it time to complain?

All jokes aside... Why can't they just do it and get it over with, all preperations should have been completed before today... , wait, wait, my bad, telkom does business like a rebellious school kid does his homework...
They are never on time with anything, they rip us off, they are a dissipointment to all of the RSA
