Sony Xperia Z South African launch window announced

Not bad from Sony. Due for an upgrade in Feb and I was considering the HTC butterfly/droid DNA/ deluxe(whatever they decide to call it this week), but this phone does it for me.

Darn. No barometer.
I also wish the specs for all phones included the screen brightness because it is a major selling point for those of us who need to use their phones outdoors in full sunlight.

Looks awesome.
Looks like a large cross between an S2 and iPhone 5 :p

+1

That's exactly what I thought. I am due an upgrade but I am willing to wait to have a look at the pricing.... Anyone know the actual landing date of this phone? OC maybe?

Sometimes I wish they would slow down, my Xperia S is now antiquated but is only 9 months old.

This Xperia Z must take the crown as the current king of the hill, at least until the SGS4 comes out !

I love Sony and my Xperia Ray is a very awesome little phone. Keyword: LITTLE

Will have to wait a while to see what they release in a smaller form factor.

This will be my next phone. I've held back on upgrading waiting for the "next best thing". Note II is a close contender and SIII is already too old.

The older Sony's seemed to be behind the rest of the pack, dual core when the rest were going quad etc. But they've up'd their game.

Sony build quality + that spec sheet = a winner

Wow! Impressive! Looks awesome and very high specced!
My type of phone!:)

Is it waterproof?

It's rated for 1m under fresh water for a maximum of 30 minutes. Not sure what the definition difference truly is between waterproof and water resistant.

By proxy it's also dust proof......

I'm really excited about this phone, the design is genuinely beautiful, and that's something I've missed with Samsung. Though I am weary of Sony's update policy, they should have been able to launch this phone with 4.2 not promise an update in the future. I'll probably go with this unless the Galaxy S4 is really impressive (if the S4 has the unbreakable screen then it's the clear winner). On that note I do wonder how durable the phone will be with drops, glass on the back and front and no mention of gorilla glass?

Spec sheet says :

Protection - Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass

Doesn't say if that includes the back panel as well.

The S4 will most likely use the octa CPU (8 core) that Samsung has recently announced.

I would love to get the Xperia ZL, nice size, excellent screen... Currently rocking a Samsung Galaxy S (I9000). My last Sony phone was the Sony Ericsson T68i and I loved that little phone... :)

Anyone know when this beast of a phone is to be launched here? It has been announced in the UK and Vodaphone UK is making it available at the end of Feb.
