I'm on a G1 contract (14 months into it). How do I go about cancelling the contract?

/Edit: my DSL line is due to be installed soon

my guess is that you will have to pay in the amount of the contract left ...

i.e. if you pay R100/m on a 24 month contract ... and now you are 14 months left so you will have to pay "R100" x "14 monthx remaining"

unless you can get someone to take the contract over from you .. like an unknowing family member :p

Seriaaas? Faust had more luck than you will have. Best bet is to get someone to take it over.

they called this morning - I switched to self install last week (after waiting the better part of 7 months), and I was told I can collect when convenient. so the impossible has happened. (Throwing a massive party as soon as everything works - all welcome)

Sorry to sound sceptical, but you really should hang on to your iburst until you connect to the internet with your dsl. The reason i say this is that even though you told telscum that you will put the dsl modem on your desk yourself, they still have to go to the exchange and enable dsl on your copper line.

And that is the huge problem, not them putting a modem on your desk.

I i were you i would enjoy internet while i had it. :D

Ok I should probably start over:

I ordered ADSL months ago
Finally after hounding them every week with a phone call I got the greenlight last week that it is to be installed this week. I then (after reading the Self Install thing on this forum) asked for that option. They said fine.

Today I got the call that the changes have been made in the exchange and I can go and collect a kit.

Sorted, now because everything suddenly happened now, I wanna see what options are open to me to get out of the iBurst contract. I will stay on iBurst until my ADSL is up and running, but I need to know how to get out of the iBurst contract.

iBurst is not working for me anyway, I'm on the outskirts of the coverage map in Kempton park and my signal is terrible with an antenna and non existent without, so I am happy to see iBurst go.

Well, please keep us informed :)

I would love to see if someone can still get ADSL in this country.

Sorry to hear iBurst is not working for you, it is a pity.

I think in order to cancel your iburst contract you'll need to pay for hte modem and switch to a month-to-month basis

once that happens you may cancel your iburst as you wish.

P.S don't quote me on that... it's what I understood about iburst when I signed up.

It's very easy to install ADSL - you just need an ADSL modem + filter.

I ordered a Samsung USB ADSL modem from www.scan.co.uk, plugged it into my pc and loaded driver for it, applied filter to phone line - and plugged my BT phone line into my modem. Voila!

The Samsung modem came with some nifty software and when BT tested my line, I could see that my line was connecting at 2Mbps!!

Well, it only lasted for 10 minutes, then it was back to 512kbps.... sniff..

Hi JontyB

We have big plans for Kempton over the next month....please pm me and I will reveal all!:)

Want to keep you with the Iburst family and I'm sure we can make a difference.

Cheers
Ed

Hi Ed

Would it be possible to share some of your expansion plans with the rest of us?

Thanks

Who's Ed Hall? Iburst ppl? or just more talk?

as for self install just a note: teleskum will charge you R200 odd rand for you to self install...

Hey jontyB!

You are not the only one! I have had endless problems with iBust and their service! Last week I sent a letter to Shawn Green complaining about the service and explaining that I wanted to cancel my subs too! (3Gig, 24 months. Have 4 months left!)

I managed to get a mail back from somebody at iburst on thursday and I was amazed at how many people he had forwarded the mail to and yet my questions and queries have STILL not been attended to! Sorry, one thing was sorted which I told them NOT to even bother about cause it was too late!

After lots of calls and various people trying to sort me out, I still have not been helped!

I also was contacted by this Ed Hall chap who also made various promises to me which I am still waiting to happen!

I want to go to the top honcho now, but their doesn't seam to be anybody! I have searched their website and the only thing I could find was that I must send a letter to some POBox number and address it to THE CEO! Who is this dude and do people still even use a "letter box"?

I am tired of their nonsense and I am going to the media next week with my stories! Then maybe somebody will wake up and smell the coffee!

That's enough complaining for now, had to get my R699's worth!

The CEO is Mr Knott-Craig junior...

His dad runs Vodacom and he runs iBurst... Things seemed to improve for the better since he took over at least...

Hopefully some family dealings will happen and iBurst can benefit from Vodacoms cheaper wholesale bandwidth charges...

Since the SNO can offer bandwidth to iBurst from the end of the month, do you think iBurst will go for it?

Haven't heard from Ed yet. Anyway, I'm not really interested in iBurst any longer. IBurst have been unwilling to assist me with advice on getting out of the contract, though apparently it is possible to change to a month to month contract (this will cost though, as it takes a month to "process"), and you have to pay the balance of the modem.

By the way, my ADSL is installed and working. It's so much better, at least I have a constant speed now. And all you can eat accounts rock :D It's a pity iBurst didn't reduce their prices a little more significantly, certainly would have contemplated remaining with them then.
