What do you think of Apple's IPOD?
Do you like or dislike? State a reason why.

 N7.

I've got an older 60gb Photo and love it.

Nice quality equipment,
good sound,
loads of accessories,
good secondary hard drive - can easily boot from it too
its functional with a good menu system
and lastly, and most importantly, it ties into my mac like nothing else does.

I have a 5G with video. Very happy with it. It's great mp3 player and good quality screen for video. Only things I don't like is that it doesn't support more formats and battery life when watching videos.

Personall I can't stand iPods. I have a 4G mini. Yes its a nice functional MP3 player, but I can get a JNC for cheaper which does more!

Main gripes:

STILL no line-in for recording
Limited to using iTunes (spits!)
No direct copying mp3's to and from device (yes I know they are hidden and renamed - how dumb is that)
Memory not upgradeable.

Bingo, I just have the 40GB Photo. Got it at the end of 2004 when they were just launched IIRC..... I love Best Buy :D

Oh and iTunes is da bomb... I just need money for a Mac then I would be set.

You're not limited to iTunes so you can stop spitting - check out Anapod which afaik also lets you directly copy mp3s. From what I can tell the renaming helps with playlists (which are probably my favourite feature). Playlists make so much more sense than folders.

Have to agree about the line-in - having to buy an accessory to record is a bit of a pain.

I've got a 60gb iPod - seems large enough for me so I've never looked into upgrading the hard drive.

Check out ilounge.com for iPod related stuff.

Click wheel interface - something even my 5 year old can use
ITunes - so simple and intuitive unlike Microsoft Media Player 11

Apple understands how to make simple good quality consumer products that normal people instead of computer geeks can use.

I have a 4GB Mini. But just yesterday i got my hands on a new Creative Zen Micro Photo 8GB, which destroys the iPod in every regard.

I love mine, there is a level of ease with the ipod that the other struggle to meet and because the system is standardised there is no learning curve when it is time to replace.

want to buy one but cannot justify the inflated price it sells for - (want it primarily for my car, so investigating other options first.

the IPODS i have played with are beautiful in design, function and usability, however i feel iTunes is the biggest abomination to man (along with Windows Media Player aka the DEVIL) but am glad to hear there are alternatives to interface with the pod.

a big let down is battery life, little value adds (like a mic, line in, ect)

looking at Creative Zen as an option, but also over priced.

The iPod's battery life is amazing, so i have no idea where you get the idea that it's battery life sucks.

I have an iPod and the battery lasts forever.

I also just got my hands on a Creative Zen Micro Photo 8GB. This is such a nice MP3 player. I haven't tested it properly yet though. Apparently battery life is 15 hours.

My only gripe with iPods is the USELESS earphones they come with.

I have a 30Gb photo and 60Gb video, and I love them.

Two of my favourite features:
1. iPod plugged into a normal powered PC speaker set and using it as an alarm clock (specific "alarm" playlist to wake up to in the mornings)
2. I use it as an external storage device when my 6Gb Microdrive fills up (it plugs directly into the Canon and import the photos ... no need to lug around a notebook)

Oh, and they look freakin' hot next to a MAC :D

oh what's the point if having an ipod when your Cellphone can play mp3's from your own collection for free, take photo's & play on the net!. Waste of money imo.

Well, does your phone have 8GBs of storage for MP3s?! I thought not.

1) Phone photo quality still sucks, no matter what.
2) Browsing the net on a phone sucks, and it costs alot
3) A DECENT phone, with a DECENT camera and memory cards up to 8GB (or 60GB if you have a 60GB iPod) will cost you WAY more than the MP3 player.

Hell, even a mid range Cell phone today costs more than a 30GB iPod.

(1) I get CD Quality mp3 sound outa my phone with my pair of Sennheiser HD-25 Headphones, even if it wasnt, it works just fine so the phone will do.
(2) yea its expensive, but the option to be able to is nice on a phone.
(3) Cost isnt that much ofan issue here, a DECENT phone, with a DECENT camera with memory card can do more than the Ipod even tho its not a dedicated mp3 player. Its a phone firstly, it plays music, takes pictures, surf the net with 3g, video calls, diary etc etc etc... Sorry - what was that about ipod? One does not need 8Gigs of memory to enjoy music on a phone. 1 - 2gigs is enough, thats why one has a computer with MP3's on it so you can swap out mp3's day to day, or as often as you want. besides, demand for more memory is always around, only due time before phones will have 30 - 60gig ram - waste of space atm!.

Hell, i didnt pay a cent for my phone that stores near 300 - 500 mp3's, so the Ipod IMO is a waste of money.

1) I said PICTURE quality, not sound.
2) True
3) Of course cost is an issue here, how can you deny cost?

Ok, then enjoy your phone. I just think that you can't possibly use a phone as your main MP3 player. 1GB, even 2GB of space just isn't enough for me, and i don't want to have to change the songs everyday. So, i buy an MP3 player and i'm happy :D

Landy man

I am lokking at an ipod for this reason as well. How long it take so to transfer say a 1gb from the camera to the ipod? How does the battery last when doing this? I am assuming that you have they ipod photo adaptor or are you suing something else? Ipod used this way means that one dump the pics off the card carry on using them once they are cleared. Is it reliable? Hate to have the pics compromised.
