I need to know : what happens when you exceed your 3Gb cap on a TelkomSA ADSL account.

I heard something about going onto a "unlimited / shared" bandwidth service that you can use until it "clogs up" and another rumor where you pay for anything over the cap that you use, and another one where you get hard capped and everything dies.

What are the facts?

There will be a softcap after u use ur 3gb. You will be able to surf both international and local websites. You should get about 10gb usage on a 3gb account. No you dont pay for anything over your 3gb cap.

dabouncer - do you know the average i will pull off my 2 gig account?

Also - today is the 22nd.I have 400 mbytes left. What 'plan' can i go about.I wanna dl about another 1 gig for the month. But im scared from getting capped.Eish!!!! hahah

There are threads every month, for Telkom Internet users to post their usage for 2GB/3GB accounts. You can get an idea from that. Look through the ADSL ISP Discussion section for such threads.

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself
I got my 2GB account a week ago and used 4GB up till now. This reminds me of the American driver that used an Autobahn for the first time, he had to get used to the idea that he can really go as fast as he can. As far as I remember I only paid proportionally when I opened a Telkom ADSL account the first time, so that makes it about R25/GB so far

Here is a silly but viable thought: what will Telkom do if you open an account, say on the 25th of the month, dowload untill capped, and cancel the account again. Is there any restriction in the fine print? ;)
