I've read through all the various threads regarding the E620, the Sunix Cardbus Adapter, NVidea NForce 4 mobos, Windows XP x64 and Vista, and so on and so forth. Okay, I've got a E620 and a Sunix adapter and I can confirm that they don't like to play on an NForce 4 mobo. I can also confirm that the E620 does not like to play on Windows XP x64 and I cannot find 64-bit drivers.

So I was thinking of getting one of them Linksys Routers (WRT54G3G) which you can buy online (i.e. not from Vodacom):

http://www.digitalplanet.co.za/shop/product.asp?StockID=85998

Now before I go out and blow 1600 bucks on this toy, I was wondering if anybody, anywhere, at any time, has managed to get this to work with the E620 and an MTN sim?

I have it on good authority that this router will not work with the Huawei E620 supplied by MTN:

Good day,

I know that there are a couple of people out there that can and are using the the router with the E620. Wonder why - Network locked - shouldn't be

What other reason would there be?

Well, I can get it to work by first loading E620 with Vodacom sim card, then removing and replacing with MTN sim card. Works perfectly after that.

I agree, appears it is though :(

Please do you know of another workaround procedure that is better than the one I use described above?

I wonder what the ethics / legal implications of Network locking are? Is there any equivalent of an ombudsman in the industry who could address these kind of issues?

I read somewhere (unfortunately I can't find the URL now) that the Linksys router requires a firmware update before it will work properly with the Huawei E620 data card.

Have you managed to find that link as yet?

Precise, albeit clumsy procedure to achieve this.

Would anyone like a precise description of how to get MTN simcard working on this router (using Vodacom prepaid sim) until power failures (then requiring manual http session + physical sim swap to re-establish connection)?

The linksys router is such cool technology. Why can't MTN get in on the action??
