picked up a cool little gadget the other day, which I'd been aware of generally - but never got around to getting or looking at before.

To do the rough exchange rate, it cost the equiv of around R1300 - altho I'd imagine the price when/if it reaches SA would be something ridiculous..
Basically its a tiny external hard drive which has audio/video out ports - you dump your multimedia files onto it via USB - then plug it into your TV (or vid projector) and sit and watch your movies like a normal person, well away from the PC. Little remote control comes with it, to navigate around your files.
Had to initially return the first one I got, coz the biatch was switching on and off by itself - but the replacement works mostly like a dream. The thing is tiny, fits easily into pocket for casual travelling around with 80 gigs of TV & movies stashed, ready to plug into any TV for playback..
Overall thing is to try get to the point of eliminating the piles of CD's and DVD's..
Next step is I'm eyeing another multimedia hard drive enclosure, the Muvix:

main reason for grabbing one of these - is that you can fit any standard drive into it - so if you have a 400 gig drive, thats 400 gigs of nicely portable and playable files without any fuss..
so instead of just 'an enclosure' - its a onestop media center+enclosure..
and the slightly more pricey one, comes with FM transmitter, so that you can travel around in car and listen to sound files, then go into where ever, and plug into a TV and play your movies as well - with one little gadget. Yummy
There are some advantages to being in the US - like the cheapo electronics - as well as the fact that most purchases online, tend to take between 2 -4 days max.
Just thought I'd point the movie fans, towards these gadgets - I'm not sure if they or equivalents are around in SA yet, but they're a great streamliner for the watching of movies/TV stuff, without needing the blank cd/dvd or divx-enabled dvd player at all..
