I just received an sms from a friend (who was fwding it from another number). The sms says the following:

Msg: If u think crime is out of control in this country please sms YES to 33588 for a survey for the Tim Modise TV show. Please forward this to as many people as possible to prove Mbeki wrong STAND UP TO CRIME

I wonder who really owns the number?
 
33588 should be linked with a 'price category'. All numbers starting with a 33xxx cost a preset amount. Not sure where to get these set amount from though. I came across them once before but just can't seem to find them again.

I got the sms. Might be legit. TV and radio organisations use 3rd party sms handling companies to service surveys like this. :)

hmmmm... dunno what that one's all about, but i've just seen the e-tv newsreader (19h00 sat 26/1/2007) announce something to the effect of... "don't forget to sms your reply to the survey ... is crime out of control? SMS your answer to 34970"

if any, i'd rather participate in the e-tv survey.
 
Haven't gotten the sms yet, could quite easily be a scam though, you never know.
 
survey over.. 98% agree crime is out of control!

/As his role in the organizing comittee for the WC, is possibly directly, or indirectly dealing with safety, he is using his show to highlight this issue even more (if thats possible)

/Unfortunatley, i think only high profile people could make a difference. Us people - joe bloggs scum bag, can stay as that, cause our voices seem to get nowhere. So its upto people like Tim to raise the issue....
 
Sounds like it is just a chain letter from friends of friends rather than any organised network SPAM.
