This is nuts, but I'm benefiting off it.
Keep in mind that 1 SEK is equivalent to 1 ZAR.
Swedish summer is coming, and this nation of 9M people are heading off to their 1M boats and 4M cottages, and they need to remain connected. The past few weeks has seen a lot of advertising by the mobile operators for mobile broadband. Here's an example of the latest ongoing campaigns.
Tele2 Sweden announced today that their unlimited monthly 3G plan (nationwide coverage) with 384kbps down and 64kbps up is priced at 99 SEK/month. You only get the SIM card, but a modem is an extra 100 SEK a month, which is still nothing.

This was in response to the packages offered by "3" (Hutchison), where you have the option to select any of the following packages:
- 1 GB/month plan 384kbps down/64kbps up: 99 SEK/month (SIM card only)
- Unlimited monthly plan 3.6Mbps down/384kbps up HSDPA: 199 SEK/month (SIM card only).
Modems cost an additional 99 SEK/month.

In Sweden, when you say "unlimited", it means that you won't be getting a phone call from the operator the morning after you've hogged up the entire base station as opposed to the UK where their idea of unlimited means 3 or 5 gigs a month! Just to test, I did 16GB the first night with the unlimited HSDPA plan from "3" as I had 6 FTP sessions across 3 different servers running at 500kbps each, totaling 3Mbps.
The plan now is to cover +95% of the population with 7.2Mbps HSPA by end of 2008 as we only have 3.6Mbps in 3 key cities, and the rest of the country only has 384kbps.
I have a HSDPA router in my car at all times, so I can read email or make VoIP calls while stuck in traffic. I bought a card from the operator and wanted a WiFi solution, so I got a Dovado WRG www.dovado.com, popped in the card, and plugged it into the cigarette plug. 3Mbps Mobile Hotspot @ 100km/h!
Cheers
