Anyone that can point me to some software to see if I can recover a hard drive. I Don't know what happened but my data drive is blank... not even formated. File system is RAW. When trying to access it asks to format it. I did not touch anything on the drive in the line of partitioning, formatting or anything. My grandaughter was playing on the machine today as in online games at miniclip.com and I don't see that she would mess around with partitioning the drive or deleting partitions or such.

TIP: Don't do anything with that drive not even defrag, try not to use the drive on the internet do as little as possible with it...I have some very good programs but I see you are in Pretoria...

Try over here:

Try over here: http://www.stellarinfo.com/download.htm

Ah, while I was waiting for a reply, I downloaded Stellar and ran it. it has indicated that all 'lost files are there - the main one I must get is my website's files although I could d/load it from the webserver. The price of the package is a bit heavy at $99 though.

I have not touched the drive apart from seeing if I can access it.. As I mentioned, it need to be formatted according to WinXP

Remember the less you work on the drive the more chance of recovery

There are quite a few Data recovery programs, but not many free ones and the demos are a waste of time as they only allow you retrieve < files which does not help as most files are > what they stipulate in their demos

If you were around in JHB I could help you I have the "Forensic suite" which is excellent...but sad to say you are miles away

Not a problem, it is a slave drive so nothing is being done on it atm.

Thanks for the help so far - I will look at those free recovery tools.

If they don't work properly might as well get File Scavenger. It is less painful on the pocket.

There is also another program you might try. I think it's called UnDelete or something along those lines. My apologies if it was linked above :D
