We need to find the masterminds. He is only the pawn in the whole thing. Probably just did it to get some money to be able to get some food.

The attempted murder being investigated is just wrong though, even if it is procedural.

Rather see and hear that the burglar got done in than seeing Headlines "Elderly couple Raped and Murdered'

Now what's this that they are being charged, if it where the other way round...Headlines would be Burglar at large and never hear about it again!!
It's quite clear that when a burglar breaks in to one's home there's no saying what he/they are capable of doing if he/they are caught unawares, especially if you threatened. And threats should not be taken lightly either!!
