Absolutely cheapest way to get XP legally?

Just so you know I'm asking not offering.

Have rebuilt a computer and would like to put XP on it legally. What is the cheapest way I can do this? I don't really mind what version I get (home/professional not important). Any ideas. or anyone willing to sell me something i can use (JHB)?

EDIT: I have salvaged what I think is an OEM Cd Key originally on the harddrive, and I believe it all came from rectron originally if that helps

or just find a freind's pc and use his cdkey, phone microsoft tell them its retail you have upgraded and it only on one new pc
u can also use your cd key or parents of close family
bam legal and free

its all automated so use those 3 things and select the correct number and you will get your new pc validated

Are you saying 1) that its posible to have the same version installed on two machines simultaneously, without WGA or anything else noticing a problem 2) That this is legal?

if you dont have an XP license/COA sticker, then its illegal
 
guys its not a legal way of doing

but i can tell you now that you get all your update's everything, wga will validate

trust me this is not something i think works

i know it does

if you get a person on the line just tell him/her those 3 things and you'll validated, even u get the machine do the above

you will get updates wga will verify

guys copying music from internet is not legal, how many of you do it? so dont come with your o thats not legal rubbish, when u go onto the microsoft website its legal what more do you need,
to feed the multi billion dolla ppl who run the company

if your asking for second hand windows you obviously dont have the cash for windows and this is the best option, if you have the cash buy it new if not do this

if you do this though dont be a snake and steal someone's key make sure the person your taking it from knows about it

nivek all those stickers are there for you not to loose your key man, how many ppl would loose their keys if they were not on the box

i changed my box 3 times in 17 months, i have no key on my box but i have legally because i cannot get it off my old box does that make my copy illegal i think not

besides are their microsoft agents going around checking ppl's box's for cd keys?

no one is trying to take the moral high ground or arguing whether the method works or not we're just saying its illegal...

you can go onto microsoft's website and download everything they require wga for, meaning its legit

as far as microsoft knows you upgraded your pc
if microsoft is validating your windows it legal, whether or not you have a key

That's how microsoft sees it in their eyes.
 
Unfortunately most machines that have/had XP were installed with DSP or OEM packages, which LIVES AND DIES with the PC. Theoretically, if you have salvaged a product key from the machine (purchased complete from someone), you can re-use that key as it is linked to that machine. Even if the previous owner did not sell you the software, he or she cannot (although they often do) re-use that key on another machine (you must have the COA though, but that can be disiputed since a lot of home-grown/garage companies sell "brand new" PC's without the COA attached, dispite the labels instructing them to).

In the case where you have built a machine up from old parts, consider buying a commodity part (eg, HDD or MB, etc) that will qualify you to get a DSP package (which is cheaper than retail), however, that can still be more expensive (if you can't re-use that part elsewhere), than just walking into "Incredible" Connection, or similar IT retailer and buying an off the shelf retail version (which will be link to a person, not a PC).

There is a tool somewhere on the net to see how your XP package is linked to your hardware (Useful to know when upgrading parts of a PC)

It doesn't have to be a HDD or anything like that, it can just be cheap mouse or USB cable.

microsoft's only eye's for xp is wga via the internet, so when u log into their website to download software or update's it validates your install and then u get your stuff

now if someone is using a duplicated key in the way i have described, microsoft sees it as a legit copy, so in their eyes its legit

again i should gone more in depth lol
 
just because MS can't tell that you lied over the phone to get another product key doesn't make it legit... :rolleyes:
 
The thing is that SuperAntMD specifically asked for is a legal copy, whether we would do it differently is up to us.

No dude. You are wrong - without the COA your OS is illegal. All of that doesn't really matter though, as lying to them about "upgrading" is not honest to begin with...
 
ok i'll give in and say its not legal but neither are copies cd's and movies

so if anyone has the above and 99% of us internet ppl do then its just fine

i dont have problems all my pc's are legal, i just tell ppl who dont have the cash for windows what to do :)
