Fixed-line rivalry ‘from next year’

Wasnt there supposed to be rivalry this year . . . . from NeoTel? :confused:

f**k i'm too tired of this... its always "next year" and then nothing comes, and then more dribble and "next year" promises and nothing.... and all the forumites scribble down the dates, and bitch and moans when nothing happens...

Why even waste their time?

In four years time, wireless will be dominant and people will be laughing at the rusty old local loop. Everything will be fibre up to a base-station then the rest wireless...

Keep your local loop telkom!!!! :D

I believe Neotel will not wait this long. They will invest heavily in wireless technology and compete with Vodacom.

This is exactly where the monopoly Telkom wants them. It's all a strategy and ICASA is playing along.
 
Well, if Telkom don't play along, I think Neotel will invest in their own fixed line infrastructure. They already have started to a certain extent. It will just be a case of them expanding it further. They can't rely solely on wireless.
 
Actually I think Neotel are being screwed. On the one hand they were told that they can buy out the infrastructure put down by Transtel, etc; and then along came Alec "I did not say sabotage" Erwin and mooted Infraco, which will imminently lease that exact infrastructure to Neotel. On the other hand, Neotel's license took forever and a day to see the light of day, and now that that is all finalised, it's still gonna take another 4 years before we see any real competition in the Fixed Line Telecoms industry, thanks to LLU which should have been started 10 years ago when Telkom was privatised. The mind simply boggles. It's a miracle Neotel remains in the country and doesn't just cut their losses and call it a day.

Becuase SA is being forced into being wireless , it could potentially be the leading the worlds' wireless way.
 
My prediction: You will not see affordable telecoms in this country while government owns shares of Telkom.

My prediction 2: You will never see affordable telecoms in this country!

If you want affordable telecoms, pack yer bags and move to a first world country.
