‘Free bandwidth campaign’ launched

This campaign aims to test the Telkom ADSL network by asking users to download a free software application which will activate at midday, 30 June 2007. “It will connect to local sites and download as much local content as possible, in unison with the machines of thousands of concerned Netizens around the country.”

 I don't mind doing this on an IS local-only account but what about the poor souls stuck on a TelkomISP of worse still MWeb account? Could be costly...

Interesting idea though.

Aren't they trying to do this at the end of the month until your cap is hit? That way it is not a huge inconvenience to many users.

I use prepaid rollover, so I won't be participating myself. ;)

cant find the link to download the program.

any assisitance???

Nice idea, always good to put pressure on Telkom before their results :D

I have prepaid as well, but I guess even that wont stop me from "abusing" Telkom on that day...Im also in (now to somehow remind myself!!!).
I think the site should take further initiative to remind people closer to the time, by then I will have forgotten to do so.

Anyway is it really "abuse" or "growth" that Telkom is trying to stop??

I'm in too.

Although I think it would have been better to have 3 points of references i.e. beginning of the month, middle, and end of month.

I would join you guys, but I'm on iBurst, 150mb and the tower might just fall over. :)

Seriously though, we have something similar when iBurst leaves everyone uncapped for a month (pure genius on their part) occasionally, and nothing happens. You don't notice a slowdown and they can afford it, so if iBurst can handle it there is no reason Telkom need to cap local or probably even international.

By downloading the FreeBandwidth testing software (available soon),
Amazing country - even consumer action is imminent.

I'm in to, but i can see whats going to happen. Telkoms gonna stick a cork in the pipe and we're all gonna go at like 5kbps :|
