Arguing on behalf of Media 24, which owns Beeld, advocate Sias Reyneke, SC, told the court that the new computerised transport information system known as eNatis had no security in place.

"It is not because the system is designed that way, it is because it is not managed, it is because there is no governance of the systems," he said.

He said a section of a report by the auditor-general obtained by Beeld showed there was inadequate password protection and that users had access to sensitive "root files."

No proper security implemented ... unbelievable! The syndicates must be over the moon. We can now register our vehicles easier - but the syndicates can re-register (hack) them easier too - a weird win-win solution.
 
Just open the door for more corruption why dont you !!

My car still hasn't been registered for around two months now :(

Good thing the report out in the open, but ya know, nowadays with the internet, if sumbody wants to gag u from publishing info, just put it on the internet open for all to see... who ya gonna nail?
I vote they take Jeff Radebe and Wayne Minnaar and other gov officials who aren't worth their salary and give it as increase to the workers!

You don't even need a password to hack into eNatis.

That was one of the shock findings by the auditor-general that Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe wanted to keep secret.

Ok, to be fair: It is possible to hack into ANY system given time and desire.

As to the rest, well ..... :mad:
 
Generally though, the idea is to make it a little more tricky by, you know, requiring passwords and so forth.

For sure, I merely bring it up because that will be Radebe's counter argument - it should have been left out so as to highlight the rest of the problems.
 
Shouldn't security be a primary concern regarding important systems? Kind of a design must, not a feature or option.
