Idiotic Free Bandwidth Campaign a SCAM!

Those links don't prove its a scam, at all.

And I guess one was written by you?

Still don't know though...

Um.. I see no factual evidence for those claims. Are you just making stuff up?

You're right, there's no factual evidence for it being a scam, but seriously, the campaign will not achieve anything except steal money from a lot of people and further enrich Telkom.

The 2nd link was to a post of mine. I truly do think this is the stupidest idea ever and I'm massively surprized that it's enjoying this much support from the MyADSL community.

Never mind Apple's 'Think Different' campaign... just 'Think'!

It does depend who they plan on downloading from, a great idea from the other thread was simply to make it P2P, with all the participants downloading from each other.

Of course that would be much harder to develop...

henkk, another point to consider is that paid a fortune for that domain name, why do that for a bad program? Normally bad people buy el cheepo domain names like .coms.

Not really, the programs are there, just need to update it to use sa ips that log in to a server.

dot orgs don't exactly cost an arm and a leg either unless it belongs to someone else

Good to hear Prometheus, in that case they should look into that.

I guess the point with the spam is that they obviously aren't a group of Russian spammers or anything, it would be very easy to hold them accountable and sue/press charges if anything went wrong or if this was a scam.

.org.za are a lot more expensive than .org`s

"There is a R200 VAT EXCLUSIVE fee for registering within ORG.ZA. This fee will be waived if your organisation is non-profit, but proof of this is required and the registration will generally be slower. Please read the registration template for more information."
R228 isn't really that expensive for a scam but what would they get out of it. It's not like they can steal money and not get noticed. And see what they are offering the programmer.

I see no potential for scamming from this application. What's the gain in making people download a whole bunch of crap and then uninstalling? You get no dummy machines to us (cos you betcha people are going to make damned sure nothing stays behind) and you're easily accountable.

This is a silly topic. At least without proof it's about as useful as starting a topic that says "Rudolph Muller really huge fan of Telkom!" BAH.

There's no theft involved and if it is implemented properly - ie via p2p where campaigners utilise their upstream bandwidth to supply the necessary data - Telkom wont see an additional penny.

And I'm sorry - but Capetownnews? What a crock of sugar honey iced tea.

Myadsl.co.za doesn’t know what that program does. They just parroted the press release without analysing it.

There’s every likelihood that this program is a trojan, and that any network test performed will amount to a DDOS.

Have they disclosed the list of sites they intend hitting? No.

Would you like to have your site on their list?

They’re being very irresponsible. They could crash servers all over South Africa.

Well unfortunately the way I see it is that if we all just sit around and do nothing then nothing will happen.

I like the pro-active approach these people are using and if it does happen to be a trojan or malware or whatever then tough luck. Go back to basics and you will see Telkom is still the cause !!!

Quite frankly these people should use more of their time investigating it and less time running it down. A$$holes!! Do they have nothing better to do??

hell im gona do it anyway just to take a shot at telkom! "better try and fail, than fail to try"

Haha, the irony. Henk reads one article on a tiny web site which has no proof and then makes a post at yeafi stating that all people who are involved in this, are idiots.

Henk, first off a virus is usually unwanted software. In this matter, you have the choice to download it or not. Not to mention it will be open source, which mean anyone can open the code and see what it does.

2nd of all, don't believe everything you read. This is the internet.

I don't see how MyADSL is being irresponsible by reporting Telecoms related news as it happens. I don't see statements anywhere saying "Myadsl demands you do this!" or "MyADSL reccomends this program!".

Making random, possibly spurious claims on a news site doesn't make it fact. As I pointed out earlier, I could post on a news site that rpm is actually the world's biggest Telkom fan. Doesn't make it so.

This guy makes claims that it's a trojan yet presents no proof, no links, not even any reasoning. Bah #1

And yes, I would be more than happy to have my site in the list. Why? Because I don't think it'll cause nearly as much disruption as some poeple seem to think and even if it does it's potentially for a cause that I believe in. Bah #2

Hell, how are people getting so up in arms about this already? The program doesn't even exist yet! It might not even happen.

So pretty much Comments: Bah! ;)
