ola..

which firmware should i download for this one:

i've got:

V4.01.20 of the DG834v3 router

on the website is :

version 4.01.28 (for UK)
version 4.01.27 (for outside NA & UK) <-- seems obvious

just wanna make sure - any benefits of upgrading firmware ?

mrnutz

last time i upgraded i had hassles, so i went back to the trusty
V3.01.25
Don't think i tried that version tho'
Maybe ill give it a go once you have tried :)

I don't suppose by any chance the firmware fixes the problem that you can't PPPOE and route at the same time? No?

hey oupa.. ummmm might seem like im hijacking your thread but im not.. i assure you :p

jis one quick question.. when your router loses synch it should register as LOS error rite ?

yip

but my spare mega100wr correctly do this - when the actual LOS occurs it registers - but after a while for some weird odd reason it kicks back to 0

834 doesn't have a LOS counter ....neither the 5102G
grr

i can't really feel improved/less stability - pretty much the same.

release notes :

New Features - Overview

Added support (DG834Gv3) for Wireless Distribution System (WDS) under the Advanced menu.

The DG834Gv3 can be configured to connect with other access points as a bridge (with wired clients only) or as a repeater (with wired and/or wireless clients)

Added support (DG834Gv3) for Wi-Fi Multi-Media Power Save (WMM-PS). WMM-PS extends the battery life of Wi-Fi devices by increasing the efficiency and flexibility of data transmission.

Added a firewall configuration option to easily disable Instant Messaging ports which are open by default.

Added support for PPTP client as ADSL encapsulation method as used in Russia.

Removed Trend Micro Security Services (TMSS) support.

Fixed a problem with Dynamic DNS where the IP address would not update when the WAN IP changed.

4.01.27 worked 100% - stable release

Howzit MrNutz,

I also got a DG834Gv3 router.

But I've been experiencing problems with it recently. How long have you had your router? I've had mine for about 8 months now, and it's been online non stop.

It's only been happening recently, the past few days, the router will either loose connectivity with the internet or it will just magically reboot itself. Then it will battle to reconnect again, or reboot itself a few times before it says online.

I was recently on 4.01.19, but just upgraded to 4.01.27 last night. But the router still seems to be doing it. Every half an hour to a hour it will disconnect from the internet.

I have logged a call with my ISP and with Telkom to check the line. But they can't seem to find anything wrong.

Not sure if the router is faulty? As at one stage when it was doing the rebooting thing every minute, I actually disconnected everything from the router and just put the power plug in and it was still rebooting itself. That's why I thought maybe the router has gone faulty.

But it's working now, only every hour or so it would disconnect or reboot itself.

Not sure if you've experienced any problems like this before?

sounds like a router going cheers if it just resets/disconnects @ random

had a case where customer X's router pots did the EXACT same thing - modem got toasted by heat

replace - worked

yeah - turn the 834 on its side with the 2 supplied footholders (hehe)

It's been on it's side ever since I got it. And it doesn't get hot at all. It's so cold right now and the room is pretty cool as well. When I touch it, it's cold not even warm.

Well since I upgraded the firmware it has only reset a few times during the week. I think maybe 3 times, and this whole weekend has not restarted once, but it did disconnect once, but that's about it.

So it seems to be performing better. Will keep an eye on it. If it does the whole restarting thing far too often, then I'll take it back to the place I bought it for a swap out.

Thanks for the replies,
:L:
