Telkom share price takes a beating

Die Telkom! Die!!!!!!!!!

On a serious note, I think telkom could start seeing a downward trend on its share prices. It would be interesting to see just how far they fall before telkom realise they need to rethink their current strategy

News like this brings tears of gladness to mine eyes, and makes the world a better place .... happy sigh ......

Where is the best place to view the Telkom share price day to day.

Ex Dividend

The R10.90 drop in Telkom Shares today was normal.

Telkom Shares were trading Ex Dividend. Thus the price of the share would be the closing price from the previous day (Friday - Cum Dividend) minus the dividend payable which was R11.00. This is not written in stone, but is usually what happens depending on market conditions etc.
What is interesting to note below is the Record Date. Strange to think how Telkom has still not made it's list of shareholders public as requested, but can determine who should get a cheque come the 9th of July.:p

Last day to trade cum dividend - Friday 29 June
Shares trade ex dividend - Monday 2 July
Record date - Friday 6 July
Payment date - Monday 9 July

Record Date:
The date established by an issuer of a security for the purpose of determining the holders who are entitled to receive a dividend or distribution.

On the record date, a company looks to see who its shareholders or "holders of record" are. Essentially, a date of record ensures the dividend checks (sic) get sent to the right people.

Shame, although I fear that nothing terminal will ever be allowed to happen to TELKOM while the government and the PIC are still major shareholders.

Good time to buy...

and here i thought shareholders were finally foretelling the end of the beast... maybe next month :D

shouldn't a journalist know that this is standard procedure before attributing the drop to something else?

The end of The Beast?
I doubt it.
This time next year Telkom will have reported another R14Billion profit. :p
However I think the steady growth in revenue is going to ease off and the only way forward is for Telkom to diversify and embrace new technology or be left behind. Either that or suffer a decrease in Headline Earnings which shareholders don't enjoy.
While Telkom still has control over the Fixed Line Market there isn't anything we can do about it.
Wireless and Cell Phones will be the order of the day. I said it years ago, even in a letter to Telkom which was never answered, that newer and better technology will surpass even Telkom.

Telkom is still going to make heaps of money, like it or not. :p

Yeah they definitely have the inside lane and the resources to stay competitive, and with them going wireless as well they can take on their competitors in new ways. I just want price cuts dammit :D

crash and burn mother****ers! the first bullets have hit home and i hope you bunch of poepals pop like an inflatable ashtray! ****ers.

8.93 (-8.66%)

and further down it goes :) ... or am I reading this wrong :D
