IQ to recruit 150 Indian software developers

I've never really bought into the whole Indian IT thing.

Our web project was outsourced to some Indian company and it came back with more holes than a sieve.

And apparently they've never heard of commenting your code. The words "unmaintainable mess" comes to mind...

I've worked with indians on projects at 2 different companies and both times after a year we got rid of the indians and threw away everything they did. One indian i worked with was good but the 10 others said they could speak english and they said they understood my instructions but when they were done it was clear they didn't have a clue.

I don't want to sound xenophobic, but thats 150 jobs that could be given to local programmers and yes there are more the 150 suitable candidates out there.

“Companies are running into serious skills shortages and that’s hurting the South African economy because they are not able to take on large technology automation projects. We will bring software skills from India into SA and use that knowledge to train local people.”

Seeing is believing...

IQ is in the business of making big bucks and cheap Indian labour is well...cheap.

But I can just imagine what their DTI reports will look like as all 150 Indians will be classified as honorary whites and as such it will make their EE stats look k*k...

Skills not available in SA don't have to count towards BEE stats. That's why whities are fooked.

LOL. Same thing happened exactly with us. They are so keen to please that they will say 'yes' to everything. Q"Can you work 'till midnight?" A. "yes, Of course ..." Servile is probably a good description.

They did have a good knowledge of English, but the accent was shocking with some and they didn't like speaking it unless they had to. In fact they sat together and spoke Hindi amongst themselves. It didn't make for good teamwork with the other members. In fact it was a source of irritation for some!

Also many of their skills were irrelevant to the position and their CVs were very fictional.

After a while the best and brightest were promoted to manager and from then on that manager didn't hire anyone else apart from other Indians.

What's a 'whitie'?

What's a 'whitie'?

A white person

I've seen Indian programmers at varsity (SA Indians not Indian Indians) and they were pretty damn good from what I saw. Eager to learn more than the syllabus offered and pretty creative too. We have quite a bit of talent in SA so why go offshore beats me.

A different animal altogether.;)

The government has chased the qualified people away. Sounds like desperation to me.

What is wrong with this country ... we want to bail out Zim by Randising their economy but yet we don't want to look after our own countrymen unless they are the ANC definition of black? :(

The Indian Institute of Technology does house many of the brightest people on this planet, I wouldn't argue with that, but it seems that anything in the IT field that originates from India is hailed as superior to anything we can produce. Obviously that's bullcrap, but you try to change your boss' perception of the situation.

But yeah, the words "cheap labour" does come to mind, but that's usually only when you outsource your projects to them, not import them into the country...
