One year in and already Virgin Mobile is rocking

I personally am very happy with VM, last month we got R162 in V-Rewards and free airtime and for two phones paid only R260 including VAT. Not had any problems with calls or internet (on the phones). Oh, and I used to pay MTN about R600 per month on just one phone. We have set limits on the phones so we get a friendly reminder when we start closing in on the limits.

My supervisor's comment on hearing that VM had 200000 subscribers: Thats all? :D Personally, I've put my VM on sim ice for a while and got a VC PPDB.:)

I would agree that if you want to use it for data then the VC PPDB's are a much better option. I have just signed up for one of those. Using VM data now for this message so it's nice to have as a backup but the speed is nowhere near that of VC 3G/HSDPA.

Ad budget per user

200k users and R50mil ad budget means R20 of every user's monthly exp goes towards advertising alone..:(

then tell them to stop advertising and stick with their current customers, oh and remind them to triple their prices to make up for the fact that they will no longer be growing their revenue stream in any meaningful way.

Well, they're definitely working at a loss, but advertising is necessary to grow the business. I just don't know how many of the 200k is still using their SIM cards...

I hope you went for the PPDBs and not the contract bundle. Here's why.

I'm a VM user and proud of it. Porting from Vodacom went smoothly and delivery of the new handset (in the far reaches of SA) was within 2 days. Hell not even kalahari.net delivers that fast. Just goes to show.

Go virgin Go - rock our world with gprs and edge.

You beauty mate!!

There has been a big push on Virgin from grass roots level - which has centred around using VM and Opera Mini - I knew that numbers were going up sharply, maybe 150K so 200K was a surprise - With much more growth to come - HOWEVER if there are any VM people reading this TAKE NOTE sort out problems with GPRS ASAP or it will turn on you

I'm just happy that VM might be sticking around a bit more...hope CellC pulls through the troubled waters and at least have some semblance of competition here in SA.

Personally I'm quite gatvol of them. Ive been waiting for a reply on a mail for a week. They are the mini-Vodacom. I think their support center is in someone's garage. Now where do I port to this time?
