The former owner of buccaneering music download site AllofMP3.com was cleared of copyright violation charges by a court in Moscow yesterday.

Denis Kvasov was boss of Media Services, the company behind AllofMP3.com and other Russian music sites, between 2003 and 2005. A guilty verdict could have meant three years jail and €420,000 in damages payable to the major record labels.

:):):)

Sorry but that is utter crap. The site knew it was distributing copyright material.

Sounds like a judge was paid off....

yep they do

they where not selling pirated mp3s at all gavin, they bought the cd's and then ripped them

so its not pirating as they own legit copies hahahahaha

i miss them though :(

Still, I can't understand why anyone would be from allofmp3 to begin with. Maybe someone can explain?

Or Russia just has different laws on the matter.

It's a farce.... why can't logic ever be allowed in courts.

They are selling tracks and paying lower than they are obligated to to a company that is not recognised by the music companies.

I should just start selling tracks as well and then sending the royalties to my wifes company... makes sense...

It is nothing to do with logic. They have different laws, with different rights. Western IP law is hogwash anyway.

I think most people bought from them for convenience. They offered all the features (no DRM, choice of codecs and data rates) that should be available from every online music store and didn't charge the extortionate prices you'd pay at places like iTunes. If the major music labels weren't so stupid and greedy they would have countered with a cheap, quality service of their own. I suppose they had their hands full alienating their customers.

100%

It's a pity more artists haven't caught onto the popularity of sites like AllOfMP3 and done a deal to distribute their material directly. IMHO if the big music players like sony/gallo/virgin weren't in the mix making the monster profits they do, we'd get our tunes at a better price and the artists would put more muhla in their pockets

yea i feel nothing downloading from allofmp3

i site with my okish job my fiesta 1.4 and my 3k bond

i dont drive hummer's on a monday porshe on tuesday ferrari thusday lambo on friday limo's all weekend
