is it even legal to advertise these so called uncapped accounts with limits in place on them ?

http://www.openweb.co.za/uncapped
http://www.ods.co.za/Services/uncapped_adsl.asp
http://www.webafrica.co.za/solutions/internet_access_adsl_is_express.html

whats the point in getting an uncapped service and then be limited to a certian speed when its allready a castrated service to begin with:

limited during working hours
limited torrent
limited p2p
threshold
rollover

if my threshold is allready reached and i now have 256k speed is it going to be limited again to 128k during work hours?

might as well just plug the damned modem back in.

Necuno i feel your frustration man. Sheesh.

I don't understand it aswell, How can they advertise a package as "Uncapped" and then set a AUP(acceptable Usage policy) for you? That kind of goes against what "Uncapped" means.

As you said, They already set a variety of limits like limited speed during working hours, Limited p2p speeds. Basically shaping the hell out of the account. Leaving you with a very slow and dreadfull experience. and its not as if these accounts are cheap. So basically they charge u in full, but they limit you as much as they can.
I don't see the point in getting these accounts.

Most of these uncapped accounts are priced at around R1300+ for 512K. with a 30gig Limit right (10gig for each 10days). You might aswell cancel that account and get a couple of Telkom 2gig or 3gig accounts.

Let me put it straight, i'm not a telkom fan.
But Telkom has relaxed capping. Most people on 2gig and 3gig accounts, get around 5gig or 6gig sometimes. They cap u randomly once the threshold is hit on telkom.

Or u can buy Capped data via Sainet : http://www.sainet.co.za/HOMEDSL.HTM
They also provide Saix accounts, but they hardcap i think. But the prices are nice.
They charge R139 for a 3gig account.
They have a 10gig account for R449

Now these "uncapped" accounts are basically speed limited during office hours, and limit your p2p and everything..

3x 10gig Sainet accounts is R1349 (Saix Based accounts)
All the Uncapped accounts are IS based wich goes thru satalite, wich is slow and are shaped to hell.

So technically IS uncapped charges you for 30gigs of international data at telkom rates??? lol

3x 10gig Sainet = 30gigs of international at full speed (its shaped but is still full speed) at R1349

vs

Uncapped IS account wich is shaped and limited etc,,etc with thresholds and whotnot for R1300+ also. *just remember all the frustration and bagage that some with this account*

my 2cents :>

complaint registerd with asasa.
http://www.asasa.org.za/Complaint.aspx

definition of a cap: "A bandwidth cap, also known more precisely as a download cap or bit cap, limits the transfer of a specified amount of data over a period of time"

uncapped is a connection then with no limitation or minitoring of your data transfer when by it can be limited then otherwise its not a uncapped service but a capped service.

their products is misleading because its says uncapped but in thruth its a capped product because your datausage is limited and monitored.

which in turn when you have reached their threshhold your data amount is LIMITED by speed decrease making it not an uncapped product !

...lets see *if* something actually happens.

typing in that small liner box has resulted in bad enlgish

*uncapped is a connection then with no limitation or minitoring of your data transfer - if its limited its not a uncapped service but a capped service.

Unfortunately I can't afford an uncapped account. But if I could, I would damn well expect it to be uncapped in the true sense of the word.

So, Necuno, well done on your complaint. I love proactive people!

When I was looking at ADSL ISp pricesetc I also noticed the IS "uncapped" accounts.
I also wondered how they could call that uncapped. Uncapped is when you have NO data limits and they do NOT decrease speed.etc

Glad someone reported it.
Now to see what happens
