Sentech’s WiMax Broadband plans

Nationwide WiMax? They can't even manage there current MyWireless product range. This is just another waste of Tax payers money... Sentech are great at bleeding government coffers... wonder who will be getting a new Merc on this deal?
 
One of the biggest challenges for telecoms companies in South Africa is finding and retaining skilled employees. Sentech is no exception, and they have recently lost many of their staff members to competitors like Neotel, MWEB and Internet Solutions.

what type of jobs do they mean ?
 
The planned wireless broadband network is estimated to take between 10 and 15 years to complete, and will come at a cost of R 4.4 Billion. Of this amount, Government is expected to fund R 3.2 Billion while the rest will rely on private financing.

The government must stay out of telcoms & internet

Hi object to Sentec being givin funding. Let free enterprise run its own course. This gov doesn't listen. They have just being told to pull out of telkon, infrico & now they want to fun sentec. how stupid can they get.
 
Poison Ivy has a bee in her bonnet about having a state owned & controlled national wireless broadband operator, and Sentech is her chosen parastatal.

But Poison Ivy is IMO the primary reason why Sentech's MyWireless service has been such a huge failure - basically Poison Ivy did not give Sentech enough money to actually rollout MyWireless, and Sentech wasn't allowed to secure private sector funding for MyWireless.

Poison Ivy withholding funding for Sentech's MyWireless, might be the only example of Poison Ivy's incompetence that might have a beneficial outcome as it means that IPWireless will be abandoned for a much better technology, i.e. WiMax, which theoretically means that under serviced areas might have WiMax in 15 years time...:rolleyes:
 
Government should use the cash to sink another fibre cable along the coast or something. Throwing it away on Sentech is disgusting. Sentech can't even keep a network with 3000 users up. How are they supposed to support a national wireless network??
 
I can't believe that they are once again asking for money. They could not even get customers for the subsidised MyWireless network... what is different this time?

They are very clever. As with the defence contract, this is a simple way to convert public money to private profit.

My question, 10 - 15 years, WTF???? Gee, we just finished rolling out WiMax 1 but the world is already on WiMax 10. Go RSA, bl00dy w@nkers!!!!
