Six months for Telkom, 3 days for WISP

I can just shake my head. I am tired of rolling my eyes, throwing my hands in the air and so forth. Government isn't willing to shake this bloodsucker on our country off, so there is no way to resist without getting violent. This violent anger needs to come from the poor of this country who are being deliberately deprived by the government...

Telkom will have to be broken down brick by brick to win this fight. Talking nicely doesn't work.

I waited 24 months for my telephone line and thus ADSL. Telkom was assured they could just let me wait.

With competition they'd just lose out and so jack up their service levels.

Telkom is currently being broken down brick by brick. In all areas of their business they're losing business.

However, Telkom ADSL is superior to other broadband products. And here they still don't have competition. And it seems Neotel is the only possibility. But they won't be ready for a while still. Maybe Vodacom and MTN and Neotel would provide the catalyst. But once Telkom comes to the party they likely won't be needed anymore--and I suspect they don't understand this yet. :eek:

I agree but this is not forthcoming. It won't as normal consumer pressure and response scenarios don't exist in South Africa when it comes to Telkom. Government has too much of a vested interest and by the looks of it the individuals in government have too much of a personal interest for any public pressure to be conducive to change in the right direction. Government has grown deaf due to (my opinion again) corruption. Call me what you want but the process of asking, begging, protesting and nagging for proper competition in the telecoms market has been futile for more than a decade now.

I don't want to see violence at all, but unfortunately the only way things will change in this regard is if the masses wake up and realise that they do have some form of entitlement to at least not be deprived without cause.

They need to rise up and demand competition and more affordable service. I am not calling for violence. Government is.

BTW this opinion is mine! If anybody else happen to share this view, cool, but this is my personal view.

:eek: I'm sorry to hear that man. Geez, I suddenly don't feel so bad about waiting for mine for almost 6 months now (160 days). But, let me not speak too soon, it looks like I may break that record in the next 18 months or so.

:mad: I'm still as mad as hell though.

I wish there was something that we could do, that would really burn telkom where it hurts. Only thing I can think of involves baseball bats and store front windows.
 
I just recently bought a new house in a development and ordered a Telkom line about 2 months ago.

Although the area has been around for more than 2 years, Telkom told me that there is no infrastructure and thus they cannot give me a date for a line installation.

The date they gave for infrastructure is at the end of the year.

Before picking up your bat :D ... try lodging a complaint with Icasa. You can send your email complaint to the following addresses:

[email protected]
[email protected]

You must give all your contact details (including address and telephone/cell number) as well as any reference number from Telkom plus dates. They then log it and send it to Telkom who by law have to respond and to date these Icasa guys said most of the complaints had been addressed by Telkom.

Never done it myself but it's worth a shot ... good luck!
 
Oh my, I wonder if school lan are legal and have the approprate wireless licence. Shouldnt ICASA be carrying out their mandate to protect Telkom at all costs and shut them down?

I'm willing to give it a try. I haven't been waiting years for service, more like 40 days. In my eyes that is still NOT acceptable. An area being around for more than 2 years (and surrounded by areas being around for LOOOONG before that) does not justify the fact that there's no infrastructure in the area.

And with the launch of WiMax, surely Telkom should target these areas first. It's a high density area which will allow Telkom to cover more people with Wimax without spending a lot of money putting up towers.

They're legal as long as they don't try to make a profit off things.

You will need a licence if you start to do it for profit.

As long as you remain within the "open" frequencies, and do no illegal stuff, then Icasa won't do a thing.

Poor, poor Telkom, ag shame, the poor thing...
 
Amobia are good. A client of ours had copper stolen in their area (I think this may have been the second time already). Amobia did a site inspection on Monday and the link went live this morning (Thursday). Excellent stuff!

Its purely bad service delivering from telkom - i dont blame them for what they did. We all just sit back and allow telkom to do what they are doing.
