Vodacom’s MXit killer?

and they will charge for it too, i doubt it will be a mXit killer....
 
Unless they are planning to launch it soon, it seems silly to leak it out early as it gives the competition (Mxit) a chance to react. Words like "likely" in the article hint at the fact that this is still on the drawing boards.

At least Vodacom and the other networks didn't try and block Mxit.

What happened to Yeigo, they could also try something like this.
 
they could kill mxit easily.. make a application identical to Mxit.. well close.. and make it that you don't get charged GPRS fee's if your on the vodacom network.. mxit would disappear in under a year.
 
If any of the cell operators can make use of the Chat/Instant Messaging function embedded by default on phones (and make it as cheap as MXIT), they might be onto something.

Don't use MxIT anymore, is off faceboob so it won't be for me.

Pity the poor daddies and mommies whose kiddies will be slurping up money... :D

Gotta agree with you there. I think these management types don't have a clue about what the market really wants. Allan Knott Craig still thinks that Mo the Meerkat is "cool" , and now Romeo thinks this GRID will fly. The SMS revolution overtook SA for a reason, the MXIT revolution eclipsed SMS for a reason - if you don't understand those reasons then you are bound to fail.

Business is like cooking in a sense - you have to know people to know what works. You cannot just mix all your favorite ingredients together and expect a fabulous meal to come out of that. That is my analogy for GRID.

Functionality of [popular internet social network site], [another popular internet networking site] and [popular cellular isntant messaging]. Yes Vodacom you have a winner, in theory. The problem is most of my friends are on Facebook, and all of them use some IM application, why would I and most of SA on Facebook/MySpace/MXit/Buzznet/Bebo/Xanga/Youtube/Stickam/MSN Spaces/Blogger/ICQ/Googletalk/Skype/Yeugo/[I'm sorry if I left out some networking site/IM application you use]etc use the Grid?

It would not surprise me if they also charge a premium for this traffic if you access on your cell phone as well. Just as well, maybe this idea will die off quicker then :-)
 
maybe they gonna start charging a fortune on the mxit ports :P

OMG, I saw a new awful ad this weekend for vodacom with the vulgar character. I thought they canned it since there have been few ads with it in the last few months.

I dont like those kind of programs anyway, much easier to phone somebody and say what you want.
 
if voda want to kill mxit, they have to make the data used free and ask no subscription, then, and only then wil they have a chance to make an impact on mxit, BUT only make an impact, not close mxit

If they wanted to kill competition, they keep mxit prices for te Grid and raise Mxit prices...
