I would still like to see real transformation in South Africa that will truly benefit the consumer on the bottom line as in the rest of the world but we all know that is a wet dream while self interest (corruption) and nepotism rules the day in government!

I worked for BT from about 1991 - when BT was still riding the wave of its monopoly and the dot com bubble was just beginning to inflate nicely.
The wake up call, which Telkom is now hearing here, is 'adapt or die'.
BT privatised in 1984, the first massive wave of redundancies/retrenchments was in ~1990. Since 1992 there have been voluntary redundancy schemes run almost every year since then. Its taken 10 years from the monopoly crunch of the '90s to the reinvented BT being lauded now.
Telkom is just starting the crunch. We've seen the denial phase (all the numbers are good etc etc); anger (ICASA have no jurisdiction etc). The next stage will be acceptance and action.
The corrupt will have less interest in Telkom once they realise that there is less money to be had. The good people will also realise that a company stuck in the past, in financial difficulties with a decreasing customer base cannot be an agent for change either.
Telkom will adapt - or die. Its the nature of things. I want the change to be faster as well...

Telkodemonopolies' R&D budget is allocated to its legal department so that it can develop new & innovative ways to play footsy with the Competition Commission and !CASA's newly formed CCC, no R&D budget is required for ADSL2+ since that was developed & implemented internationally years ago.
