IT guinea pigs sought to test PC replacements

THE Central Energy Fund is looking for two companies willing to rip out their computers and replace them with Sun Microsystems equipment.

This is an experiment to prove that Sun’s technology is the most environmentally friendly.

And the environmental impact of ripping out 100 computers and replacing them with new ones is...?

Good on SUN. Very good indeed! I support this effort completely! Can I also have a SUN solution pls! :D

Anything to cut down the heat produced by my computers in this study! YIKES!!!

Interesting.

Can I join?

One server, three workstations at home :D:D:D

Intel's Presshot CPU's is nice in winter, but in summer...

Im with Xcentric on this, what a load of marketing hogwash. Surely one should sweat your assets, as they say, and hang onto them as long as possible. Proprietry Slolaris pre installed and thin clients are a great idea but with bandwidth costs in this country being so high only really effective on site (not country wide networked) although I might be a bit behind the times there...

Why not use one of the varsity's or technikons I'm sure that could use new computers or a police station ?

Those computers being ripped out will end up either on a rubbish dump, recycled into toxic chemicals or end up chugging away in some linux lab some where. Now add the new SUN systems to that and you have actually worsened the problem.
