All Over...
I was thinking of posting something like this here...Lots of times ppl get slow connections due to faulty proxies or something else along that line...So how about we post the proxies ( in South Africa only ) that are currently UP and FAST??
These are SAIX ONLY proxies...There are many more, but i'll post the one's with the least hassles...
It would be appreciated if you could post proxies that you KNOW works in your area, then i'll try to put it up in this block as well...Just say where you're from..ie Cape Town or whatever :)

If browsing from KZN, this is the current order of speed

Latest Update ---> 26 Nov 2007 Time: 15h:00
Fast
----
Proxy Name / Port
DISABLE PROXIES IN BROWSER

Medium
-------
Proxy Name / Port
ndf-cache1.saix.net / 8080
dsl-cache.saix.net / 8080
cache.saix.net / 8080

TIP!!! IF YOU GET DIFFICULTY WITH PROXIES, TURN IT OFF IN THE BROWSER AS 99.9% OF THE TIME YOU WILL GET A FAIR CONNECTION WITHOUT IT!!

If there is someone out there that has more proxies, or proxies that works in their regiones, ....shoot ;)

Well I have a few; I do not know if they will work for sustained periods though. When trying them, I simply closed IE, put the details in, opened it again and tried browsing (to one international site). If the site opened using the proxy with the specific port then it was recorded. Here are some of my results:

196.25.253.13 on ports 80,3128,8080 (ndf-cache1.saix.net)
196.25.253.14 on ports 80,8080 (ndf-cache2.saix.net)
196.25.255.194 on port 3128 (ctb-cache4-vif0.saix.net)

I will however give some of them a try now on sustained browsing and edit this later, but it's here now for people to try :)

EDIT: the one says "Forbidden" after a while ?! eish ! (196.25.253.13:8080)

It still works 100% this morning. Which province are you in? 18-11-2007

I'm in GP, ja I don't know if maybe Route Sentry was trying to push the cache browsing through my local ADSL account (since the cache servers are local) I think that is why I was getting forbidden messages :p

I don't know exactly what it was, but so far this is my best guess :)

Just FYI, you can get a FireFox extension called TorButton that allows you to toggle a proxy on and off, might be useful for this. Its supposed to be used with TOR obviously but it works with any proxy settings. There might be other extensions that do the same thing.

..to add onto this, there also is a browser called "Avant Browser" that does the same thing and gets intergrated with IE...this basicly uses IE as a "shell". So if you like IE, you'll like this browser...just need to get used to it ;)
The latest "Updates" i'll post at the beginning of this thread!!!

Well, for the record; here are a few more :) OK, these work but as I'm on 384 I usually get full speed all the time proxy or not so I cannot say what performance would be like on say a 4MB line :p

196.25.255.18 (cbs-cache1.saix.net) works on ports 80 , 3128 and 8080
196.25.255.130 (cbs-cache2.saix.net) works on ports 80 , 3128 and 8080
196.25.255.195 (ctb-cache5.saix.net) works on port 3128

Is a proxy really worth using ?

Usually it will make your browsing a bit faster.

Also, some of the sites I browse have issues if I don't assign a proxy... They only work if they think that you have a static IP.

Also, for some reason, some sites simply won't even load if you don't have proxy set. No idea why.

Ok, here is my current contribution based mainly on this post:
http://mybroadband.co.za/wiki/index.php/Proxy_Servers

I figured the next time cache.saix.net was going slowly, I would not have to search MyAdsl posts for a new proxy :)

Thanks sabagamma, but unfortunatly i couldn't get any of those to work :(
At the moment proxies is **** again ( today 26 Nov ) , so i would suggest surfing without proxies for the time being :)

You still end up using a SAIX caching proxy... They just assign one to you if you don't specify one yourself.

100% correct...The reason for this proxies im posting is because a lot of ppl use them as ive noticed that sometimes they are faster than the "assigned" ones. Its also easier for the "not so technical" ppl to understand the meaning of "disabling" the proxies in the browsers, thereby using the assigned ones...I just do it to make life a bit easier for them :D
PS: Ive changed the "dont use proxies" to "disable proxies IN BROWSER" ;)

It's official tried using those proxy non of them seem to tend to work.
All get forbidden access. By some policy thing, anyone else experience the same issue,

Try disabling them and see what happens...I have noticed "some" sites dont like them...

I get that when I try to access them from my local-only account... Don't know if it's related, but it's the only time I've had that :)
