Until hosting is SA becomes less expensive, I don't get it. Most sites are hosted overseas. There is nothing in SA to download. Don't get me wrong. I think cheap local is great. It will drive the local Internet industry.
Telkom currently charges around R 12-00 per GB for local bandwidth, and with low profit margins – especially on 1 GB ADSL services – SAIX reseller ISPs will soon run at a loss if they offer free uncapped local bandwidth.
Internet Solutions, who already offer customers 30 GB of local traffic ‘free’ with any standard ADSL account, did not give feedback by the time of publication.
I disagree with you there - actually I'm not entirely sure of what you intended to post there.Hosting will become cheaper once local bandwidth becomes free.
Do the Larger ISP's still not get bandwidth from Neotel? I was under the impression that Neotel had connected the major ISPs.
Won't their connections offer cheaper local connections?
I hope this is possible and Telkom can be bypassed altogether one day, they don't deserve to be in business and I don't understand how they can be proudly South African. That should be stripped from them!
local is free but you have to pay for it after and before you reached your cap which is not subjected to local traffic which does count.
What about Linux distros? There is nothing in SA to download.
Asked whether they will offer uncapped local bandwidth, MWEB said that, “In terms of the ICASA regulations we're obliged to, so the answer is yes.”
What about Linux distros?
Where? I'm not trying to be cocky or anything I just can't find the linux distro's on local networks?
