Kalahari.net voted best eCommerce store

Have to say I've had nothing but appalling service from them recently. :(

Seems to be the norm for most online stores these days. I'm extremely pissed off where I'm sitting, but I'll share once my problem is sorted, don't want to redo past mistakes.

yep, Im a Amazon FAN! exccelen't service there. to bad they don't fall locally...

Ditto. TEN days, yes 10 days for a supposedly 24 hour delivery item.

I recently used Amazon for the first and was impressed. The stuff arrived earlier than advised and they keep you well informed of progress. The only snag is their shipping charges - ouch!

I disagree heavily with these results:
Kalahari.net for the top eCommerce store
Bid or Buy for the best online auction site
Digital Pl@net for the best computer store

I agree with these:
Netflorist for the best flower and gift store
Woolworths for the best wine and food store
BT Games for the best games store

Seems like my vote was not counted :(
Oh well, at least I see BT Games in there! :)

I've never had a problem with Kalahari but given jump is a search engine for those sites I'd imagine the results are quite weighted by who has the best search algorithms

I'm still waiting for my 5 day delivery, got an email saying that they ran out of stock so it will be a 10+ day wait

Ummm....digital planet...best nothing, how they remain in business is beyond me.
Actually best in advertising goods that are not available.
I also think these results mean nothing..I suppose if you have a big paid account with jump you get nominated.

I buy extensively online. No-one asked me for my vote. I would have not have voted for Kalahari. I would not have voted for Digital Planet.

Unless it was for bad service, bad prices, shocking websites, late delivery or non-delivery.

Really, how can this story be taken seriously? It says that these e-commerce store were voted the best. And in the next breath that Matthew Buckland, General Manager from Mail & Guardian was one of the judges. So were they judged? Or were they voted for by shoppers?

How the hell is Take2 not on the list?

I agree fully with those who made comments about Digital Planet. I had one too many bad experiences with them recently. Don't plan on buying there ever again.

Prophecy Shop on the other hand....I'd definitely vote for them as best online PC store.

The problem is that any poll that involves the general public will always favour the big players.
This is how chains like Mimmos get to win best Italian Family Restaurant year after year and Steers win best burger. Simply because the guys actually making the good stuff aren't big enough to get the volume of votes in.

Sadly you will have to get used to it and these polls actually enhance the reputation of the big guys and will entrench their lead.

What gets me going about kalahari.net is their crap ordering system regarding pre-orders, why cant they do it like amazon, and take everything you want in one order even pre-order items, and send the whole package when the pre-order item arrives at their warehouses....thats what Amazon does. And Amazon lets you cancel and chop and change your order as many times as you want up to the point were the package are going to be dispatched....not kalahari.net...noooo....them you've got to email or call to change your order.

I've been waiting FOUR weeks for my order from PCMall . They never return my calls when I inquire about the status of my order either.

On the other hand, have always had great service from Zaps Computers :).

Kalahari I find, is so-so...

I voted (although not for the winners!), so at least part of it was a consumer vote. Actually, I only heard about it because a shop that I signed up with (but never bought from) spammed me about it as they were one of the nominees (needless to say, I didn't vote for them either).

Take2 was a nominee, but I guess they didn't win. Can't remember who the other nominees were; and I don't know who chose the nominees in the first place.

Digital Planet (DP) seems to have taken their recent ASA spanking to heart. I searched for a product on google.co.za, I spotted a google advert for the product on digital planet - clicked on it and guess what - I get a "This product does not exist" message.

So I searched on DP for the product, a popular product btw, and still nothing, not a sign. It looks like management kicked some sales @ss there - after their @ss was kicked of course :)

I think the problem here is that how many people vote. You might have 1000+ people placing orders on Kalahari.net a day and 90% of them are smooth and then you have the smaller guys doing 10+ orders a day with 99% smooth but because Kalahari has more customers they win.... my 2c

This poll means nothing - all it is is a vote for the most popular stores that pay to be listed on jump (partnered btw with ppls favourite bidorbuy) - which is not a free shopping portal, imo its actually a damn expensive one (R1 plus vat per click) - so online stores that have either selected not to be on jump or have not heard about jump will not be included, plus any survey or poll that has digital planet as best computer store is absolute rubbish, I have yet to hear of one good experience - their prices are cheap, but very late deliveries, bad communication ...shocking that they were even considered.
