Problems with Telkom ADSL Resell remain

Add to this the problem of SAIX resellers being unable to offer "free" local bandwidth after capping due to SAIX/Telkom's per gig pricing model and the exhorbitant rate at which SAIX sells local bandwidth.

TelkomInternet can offer it because it doesn't actually cost the Telkom Group more than a few cents per gig, which they can recover anyway from the ridiculously high ADSL "access" rentals.

While Telkom "complies" with ADSL regulations, their competitors in the ISP space cannot possibly comply without going out of business.

Telkom proves once again that it is anti-competitive in the extreme.

How much local bandwidth is free after Cap with Telkom?
In that case i'll get a 1Gig account with them for my local only...
Or am I barking up the wrong tree...

Agree

I agree with the article. Out of experience with helping clients to get adsl: Apply directly to Telkom and you are helped within 2 to 3 weeks in my area. Apply to (as in my case) Web afirca for the complete product some of my customers are now waiting for 2 MONTHS in my area.......

Why is this that we (I) complain (and read) now for years and years and years and and and........ NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT THIS ABSURD situation. Its just talk, write, talk...........etc.

How long are we still going to get screwed like this??????????????

You are not barking up the wrong tree. For a brief time on the Telkomsa website, they added a 10gb local per 1Gb "blended" allowance onto each of their bandwidth packages, with a R25.55/gb cost after exceeding the allowance. It was later removed, but it may be indicative of where they are heading. In the meantime, no known costs and no known limits are being applied during the trial phase.

This in itself is an anti-competitive act, especially if Telkom is not extending this to SAIX resellers.

The competition commission is currently investigating Telkom's behaviour with respect to ADSL with both MWeb and IS being active in pursuing complaints against Telkom. It may be advisable for some SAIX resellers to join the fray at the commission.
