Is Telkom looking at Cell C?

I just don't see Cell C making much business sense for Telkom.

Telkom want to increase their footprint into Africa, but Cell C is only a local player.

If I was Telkom, I would think 10 times before touching Cell C with a 20 foot pole

Telkom should sell Vodacom if strategically it wants out running a mobile network to concentrate on the fixed line world. It would make no sense to sell a successful mobile operator and buy a struggling one.

Mobile comms has been hugely lucrative up until now, but the gravy days will come to an end. It's already happening, mobile networks complaining about supporting the poor uses of their networks and threatening to cut people off; downward price pressure on data; there can't be many people with money left to get a cellphone; registering handsets for foreigners etc etc.

The cellphone is now a commodity, demand for better service and lower prices will tighten up the margins, users are being milked for all they can afford.

The majority of people have a limited 'entertainment' budget, which is getting squeezed by food, fuel and bond rate inflation. So there is little new money to play for.

I believe that the real long term winners will be offering good value, good service, reliability with simple understandable services that work.
