Telkom launches ‘cost-effective VPN service’

Before reading the article I'm pessimistic - Telkom and "cost effective" just don't happen in the same sentence
The sums are really simple:
R19 per GB for a local only prepaid account.
R22 per GB for the highest usage VPN lite package.
Both use ADSL and are subject to the same awful SLA's
Both require you to maintain your own termination routers.
R0 setup fee for an in house solution.
R216 activation fee for VPN lite
Where is the benefit? I'm not really seeing it.

A couple of questions spring to mind:
- Would the VPN and my existing internet access co-exist on the the same ADSL connection (I would hope so)?
- I assume that the VPN data traffic is separate from my internet usage allowance (assuming (1)).

So instead of using OpenVPN or some other free solution, I now have the opportunity to pay Telkom twice for the same line, as well as twice for the same data.

Also, this is not a "new" solution. New to telkom maybe, but other ISP's already offer this.
Telkom is like microsoft. stealing other people's ideas, and spinning it as "new, improved, latest technology, we are so good, blah blah"

Diabolical.
So basically Telkodemonopolies realised that its shaped versus ushaped data pricing model could be applied to VPN services in the form of VPN Lite and VPN Supreme, why not create a single VPN service that scales to any size?
I'm sure by now Telkodemonopolies knows which orifice to use for the ritualistic shoving-up of this and its other "services".

Um ... lets see if this advert can disprove itself ...
... oh ... me crosses out RELIABLE.
Hu? So ... I can assume then that it's not by default a using 4MB ADSL then ... so, me crosses out FAST.
So, it's SECURE then? Well, secure is debatable, because, if you are in control of this VPN, then you have to know about and protect against every means that hackers utilise nowadays to capture passwords and stuff ... and, the typical user of this service will not know about that ... you can hire somebody who does know about and keep up to date with the risks, but that person could also run the facility without teklom's help ... so ... i'd cross SECURE off the list as well but that's just me.
Actually, the maximum upload speed on a Telkodemonopolies 4Mbits/s [downlink] ADSL line, is marketed as being 384kbits/s on the beast's website - which I discovered a few days back, so it's even worse...
I wonder if these accounts can be used/linked to something with a higher uplink so that it might provide better accounts that way, i.e. 20GB combined usage where the isp does the routing for local and international

It was actually bwana's point.Lol, yes and the poor hapless victims *erm* I intented to say fortunate customerswon't realise that their connection speed is limited to the uplink speed on the other side..... NOT 4096, but 128 or an amazing 384!!!
