    Smart light switch help needed

No neutral required. This is overcome by installing a capacitor across live and neutral at the light bulb. Capacitor(s) should have been supplied with your switch.

Switching off South Africa's geysers could save up to four stages of load-shedding — Ramokgopa

It also will have another benefit - cold showers and a reduction in the birth rate. I'm not sure what this man is smoking and how he did the calculation. The domestic market consumption is small compared to SA's industrial and mining so geyser load reduction will make individuals feel good but...

Estimated electricity savings over 20 years with grid-tied solar and batteries

This article is purely a sales pitch. True economics should be measured against your hard earned money left in the bank earning interest, alternatively borrowing expensive money to finance the installation. Suddenly payback term goes to ten or more years. Certainly we may see 18% cost of power...

Random switcing off of Sonoff devices

I have a brand new set of wifi 6 mesh routers and I am now longer of an age where someone would even consider hiring me(-; A search of Google seems to indicate that a number of people around the world are experiencing similar problems with the Basic / POW type switches. I have had absolutely...

Random switcing off of Sonoff devices

Some feedback. I took one of the troublesome Sonoff Basic R2's reset it and added it back to the Ewelink App. Problem still exists of randomly switching off. I have now set Device Settings=>Power-on State=>Last State. This keeps the device on but I can hear the relay periodically switching. I...

Random switcing off of Sonoff devices

I suspect that loadshedding, or rather when power returns that we are seeing some aborations in power which could be causing damage or corrupting the firmware. BTW, I do have surge protection on my DB and my plug circuits are fed via an inverter. I have yet another Basic R2 behaving badly which...

Random switcing off of Sonoff devices

I have around 20 Sonoff devices (bulbs, BASIC R2's and T02 wall switches) scattered aroud the house. Recently a few of the Basics and the wall switches will turn themselves off quite randomly or in one instance will not operate on a Scene in EWElink. Any ideas?

Deco x55 speed issue on Afrihost

Hi There I recently replaced my old faithful Archer c90 with a set of Deco X55's. This was not an issue whilst my package with Afrihost was 100/10 mbps. I comfortably achieved full download speed across the entire network operating the first Deco as the router. With the speed upgrade, upload...

Tesla Powerwall and Freedom Won home battery comparison

What I tried to illustrate was more the simplicity of the Powerwall and a few of the omissions required to get the Victron / Freedom Won combo operational. No intention of delving into solar.

Tesla Powerwall and Freedom Won home battery comparison

It Takes a lot more than just an inverter and battery to get a back up / solar solution going. ... and needs plenty of wall space. Not really a great comparison of two lots of premium equipment.

Afrihost: We will not rest until we are number 1 on the MyBroadband ISP rankings

Principle frustration lies around this ticket (NCB-936-40744) and another agent who called back and then failed to follow up. The issue is now on this ticket OUY-277-83050. Looking forward to some positive feedback or any feedback around issues that may exist with Frogfoot.

Afrihost: We will not rest until we are number 1 on the MyBroadband ISP rankings

This is beginning to echo my experience ... things get difficult for the customer service agent and they stop responding to you. All I want is an installation date and Afrihost has had my money for 2 1/2 weeks now.

eWeLink to begin charging for IFTTT

I'm too old to play now, long since retired! I have started dabbling with smart home automation using Sonoff with the eWeLink app. What I cannot see anywhere on the web, is what IFTTT functionality one gets for USD10 pa. At the moment I use the simple built in functionality like, Sunset, switch...

Major ADSL shutdown in South Africa - These areas will be cut off

I would welcome ending my unholy marriage to Telkom spanning more than 40 years but as Openserve has no fibre presence in Beacon Bay where I live, Frogfoot needs to get their act together and fill the void in the trunking which has been in our street since before lockdown. MDU date has moved...
