A United Airlines 777 leaving Hawaii in December plunged toward the ocean for 21 seconds shortly after takeoff and came within 800 feet of sea level, flight tracking data show.

Neither United nor the FAA indicated anyone was injured on United Flight 1722 on December 18.

The plunge occurred a little over a minute after takeoff, the data show.

The plane lost more than half its altitude and came within 775 feet of sea level, according to the data from FlightRadar24. The plane gained speed as it dropped 1,425 feet from 2,200 feet before regaining its climb out of Kahului on the island of Maui.

The data suggest the remainder of the flight was uneventful.

United said it conducted an investigation with the FAA and the pilots union “that ultimately resulted in the pilots receiving additional training,” adding the investigation is ongoing.

Scary, but what worries me is how it was solved with "additional training" ? Should you be behind the controls of a 777 full of passengers if you need "additional training" ?

This is why I just drive anywhere and never fly. No thanks. If I am not in control then I ain’t getting in it.
My problem is i have to fly so much for work. I never like it lol. But I have to do it so I sit there for hours wondering whats going to go wrong next...what i usually do is make sure i haven't slept for a while so i get on really tired and can basically pass out for most of it lol.

Given your propensity for wanting to have extra protection, I strongly recommend you dispense with carry-on luggage and buy a parachute instead.:D:D:D:D

Well look at the positive side, the nose down & increased speed=more lift-Good...as oppose to nose up and a stall=Plunged to the ground/ocean-Bad. It looks something happenned(Lack of training thing-?) and somebody else did the right thing and luckily they did not run out of air and saved the day....My guess.
